Subject: Updating Halo 2 post-shutdown

Now that school's out and summer has begun, I've decided it's time to try to relive some of my childhood memories by playing some good ol' Halo 2. Me along with a couple of friends tried to set up a Halo LAN party but it turned out to be a major disaster.

The problem of course is that I am unable to update Halo 2 on my new Xbox 360 slim. I of course tried to log in to Xbox Live via Halo 2 as it was done back in the day only to find that the game refuses to update. I would even be content with playing the game without the maps packs, it's just that the 6 beat down killing is really a deal breaker for me. Not only does it eliminate BxR but also renders weapons such as the sniper much less effective. I even tried to move the updates with a memory stick from my old Xbox 360 but for some reason it refuses to move original Xbox content (i.e. Halo 2 map packs and updates) to a memory stick...

(TL;DR)Therefore to sum things up, how the hell do I download the update(s) for Halo 2?

Your options are this.

1) Get the map pack disc which includes some of the updates but most likely not all of them.

OR (the most clever solution)

2) Get your friends to wipe their 360 cache of updates which will make Halo 2 go back to the original version like yours. That was my solution a year ago. Some of the old glitches which may be deemed as "cheating" back then are actually good fun with a lan party.

Anyways, hope this answers your question.

Have you tried just plain hosting games with the older 360? I think Halo 2 is compatible between patches, and if so it's likely that it chooses functionality based on host.

Hmmm haven't tried that, will give it a try. Thx for the idea :)

I'd hate to have to resort to buying the map pack disc especially since I'll need to get it from Amazon... Why couldn't they just let us update it over Xbox Live? I mean how hard can it be...

I still say downgrading the updated Halo 2's to the original one is your best bet, provided Halo 2 isn't backwards compatibile with older versions.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Here's a better solution:
