Subject: Does the webteam know when we're lurking?

Roll the dice, try again.

Can being "active" on bungie.net count as lurking? Like viewing so many pages of bnet counts for X amount of trust over a given time?

Sometimes I'm online for a while, but don't actually post. I just want to know if this still counts for me being active.

K thx.

So I assume that they do know when you're lurking. Creepy

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

I'm not sure, i assumed trust and such only came from posting, I mean, how would they know we have viewed a page?

I like to believe they can only see actual activity.

But would that count as account activity, or just be logged as my computer wanting to have a sneaky look?

Presently I think most of the requests are sent as a result of direct input from the user, like mouse clicks when opening topics, clicking the quote button, etc... So those I would classify as account activity.

A good example of the opposite (which is what you're also referring to as your computer "looking") would be something like an auto-updater (polling) which loads more posts in a topic, for instance. Those likely wouldn't be generated by the user and not something I'd see as activity directly resulting from a user. However, it's unlikely the server would be able to distinguish an "auto-update" request being created by the browser and a similar request created by another program being used by a person, for instance.

Probably. Most forums have a "the following members are currently online:" feature, so it's highly likely that Bungie can look at this if they want.

When a page loads into your browser, it does make a sound, and there is always someone around to hear it. We have... analytics.

There is nothing that you can do on Bungie.net that we will not detect. I know how many of you visit our domain every day, even if you don't make so much as a peep on the forums. I know which Private Groups are the most active. I know where you go to rig elections and plan trolling raids on The Flood. I know what you had for breakfast.

You might see some of us some of the time.
You might see all of us some of the time.
You will never see all of us all of the time.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

Just like you know how we visit and find things that we "shouldn't be visiting" on Bungie.net?

Don't blame me for being curious.

Prove it.

How many times have I visited Bungie.net? "A lot" and "Not enough" are not valid answers.
