Oh, but even if you have the acceleration up to full speed Halo 3's running still feels 5-20% faster than Reach's. But from the video it's only 2% faster.

Most probably because H3 has a slow acceleration so you're more often than not at top speed.
Look at why strafing worked nicely in H3 and not in Reach.
Reach has piss poor acceleration so it takes a few seconds to reach top speed.

Even if both Reach and Halo 3 are both at their top speed (meaning you ran enough without stopping to the point where both of them stop acceleration because they reached their full speed), and you keep running, why does Halo 3 feel so much faster? It even looks faster.

I'M also wondering if that top speed Wise showed is with sprint or not lol.

I would agree with most of this. H3 was also slightly turned down in speed from its predecessors, less drastically though.

The acceleration is a HUGE issue for strafe. Lowering speed makes the game "better for fist time halo players." Don't forget that by not rewarding head shots throughout the lowering of the shields, it allows more aiming at the chest which is a bigger target. This seemingly decreases the effectiveness of strafe, making reach seem even slower than it is. Try something with faster movement speed like MLG or Anni and tell me you don't feel a difference in movement speed. Not what many would like but its still better.

TLDR: Not rewarding headshots consistently through a battle and only on the last shot makes strafe less effective making it seem like movement speed is even worse on top of everything else.

Why are you so obsessed with movement speed?

  • 06.21.2012 12:37 PM PDT

bungie has proven that a bunch of monkeys sitting in front of keyboards can randomly type out a masterpiece. the thing is, when you go to play the masterpiece, you cant help but notice all the monkey s**t smeared all over it.

it gets real old having to wait months for someone like mlg to clean off all the monkey poo.

a meter in one game doesnt necessarily equal a meter in another. speed is about time and proportions. to compare speed, you need a standard unit.

assume in both games the character moves 5 meters a second. however, in one game the character is defined as 2.1 meters tall, and in the other the character is 1.9 meters.

in game 1 the character is moving 2.38 body lengths per second.
in game 2 the character is moving 2.63 body lengths per second.

that is a very real 9% speed difference in a situation where a 100 meter walk youtube video would show no difference.

as far as h3 movement speed vs reach, ive never seen a legitimate comparison vid between the halos and dont care enough to make one myself.

Acceleration and Field of View.

No even if you run for awhile without stopping for it to not accelerate anymore it still feels slower than Halo 3 by like 5-10% slower.

I don't think it's FOV either, because when I go Beaver Creek on Halo: Reach.

Then go to Halo 2 on Headlong.

Halo 2 feels way faster. And I'm playing on a huge map, with huge sightlines on Halo 2 and it stills faster than Reach playing Beaver Creek.

Then when I go to Beaver Creek in Halo 2 then go to Reach and play the same map, Halo 2 still feels faster, and I'm not talking about the acceleration.

If it feels faster, then it probably is still FOV.
They pushed it back farther in Reach, allowing you to see more while in 2/3 it was much closer so everything seemed to go by quicker as you moved.

I find that Halo 3 speed feels slower even though it is not. The reason: no sprint.

I even counted the seconds it takes to get to the end of the map Halo 2 took like 5 seconds faster.

Means nothing if the proportions are not identical.

Because it is a lot slower. Thank goodness 343 is returning it back to classic Halo speed in H4.

So Halo 3's movement speed is 9% faster than Reach's?

I believe it, but where did you get that info?

I know, but the video shows that Halo: Reach is only 2% slower than Halo 3 movement wise, but Halo 3 feels faster.

But I'm starting to think the video is terribly inaccurate.

Because it is.

The only way that original video would of been accurate was if he was able to use all the spartans on the same map on the same game..... not use some estimated distance on all separate games.

Ok, but how does that one guy know that Halo 3 is 9% faster than Reach?

Sighs anyway I hope Halo 4 is way faster than Reach, because Reach is slow.

And I hope Halo 4's sprinting is faster.

H4 has faster running and higher jumping.
H4 does not, in any way, need a faster sprint than Reach considering the sprint in H4, is default and lasts way longer.

Yes but Spartan IVs and Spartan II's sprint is much faster than a Spartan III's sprint and everybody has it, and when shot you slow down.

And plus Halo 4 sprint looks a heck of alot faster than Reach's sprint. Even though Walshy said that Halo 4's sprint was slower, which I believe he thinks it's slower because he was playing on a 50 inch plasma screen or he never played Reach inawhile.

Because I did alot of videos seeing your guy sprint in Halo 4 and Halo: Reach and I watch them carefully. Halo 4 has way faster sprinting.
