This is just awful!
I cant believe that matchmaking will be the basis of the MP mode in Halo 3 (see this weekly update).
Again this forces us to play game types that we dont want to play.
If only they will add the option to create youre own public server with your own game types.
Bad news indeed for all us non-mainstreamers.

Uh... duh... you think?!

The problem is Einstein that custom games are not public in matchmaking, that was my point.

What we need are public game servers with custom game types that can be openly accessed by players without having to form parties or trawl through friends lists for available players.

The Black Chapter

If you're having problems with lack of friends to invite to your customs, maybe its not matchmaking you hate, but your own lowly, depressive stature on the idea of friends (even if they aren't real and are from XBOX LIVE)

I agree with everyones responses....You my friend need to get more people on your friends list and play customs. THats what I do. And the matchmaking system in Halo 2 is probably one of the best ones out there.

We do, this just isn't funny.

Yea, the match making apsect of Halo 2 is fantastic, and if you have friends, then customs are fun too!

Get some friends that like you... (ones that dont talk -blam!- and scream)... and then make a custom with the, get them to invite their friends if necessary....

Matchmaking and the party system is what makes Halo 2
multiplayer so damn good.

So shut the hell up.

I agree, creating public servers would make for a much better, much less frustrating game experience for many people. These public servers could have their own moderators able to moderate each game. Cheating, modding and other types of network manipulation could be better controlled, perhaps i should also mention less laggggggggggy games...!

This would also alleviate some of the pressure members of the bungie team undergo trying to stop said cheating/network manipulation (more developement time on H3?) Anyway congrats to bungie for their attempts to stamp this out.

Clans/leagues could be formed from these public servers to play against other clans/leagues *harks back to the days of a certain ID game*.

We've all been cheated aginst in one form or another and we all get agitated when this happens. It has nothing to do with how many friends we have online!

^Gosh, darn, golly mister.^

I think the question is, why can't we have public servers?

They only said MM was included, they never said anything about public servers. We don't know if servers aren't part of multiplayer or not.

Nope, Matchmaking was very inventive and pretty much kicked ass. The only thing that took away the greatness of it was the cheating.

Why? I send pretty much every mature XBL player I meet a Friend Request. I don't want to go into parties full of a bunch of people I don't know...

Did they say matchmaking? I thought they're just looking into which gametypes work and which don't.

How do you know they didn't listen to us and make custom games public? Matchmaking is by far the best system for multiplayer in any game so far, so obviously it's going to be in Halo 3.

Rather than send out multiple friend requests to every Tom, Dick and Harry, its much easier to just open a server and let people come in as they please (ala. GRAW).
This means that you can keep an eye on player behaviour as well as have a blast playing your own custom game types.

Sending multiple invites may work for you in the states, but here in europe we have a time difference which doesnt guarentee that your friends will be on at the same time to play.

I love matchmakeing. It's probably the best multiplayer system I have seen. I never did like servers. The problem with servers is you usually play against the same people, the servers always seem to play the same levels and same gametypes ALL the time(CTF anyone? that seems to be all there is on Halo 1 PC now days), and it takes a while to find a server that is actually fun. In Halo 2, I can hit a button, and instantly be able to play a fun game. I love that.

If you're removing everyone who is a fan of matchmaking, how can you possibly expect to have a balanced discusssion? Because that kind of requires multiple points of view, doesn't it?

i agree, i made a post about this earlier saying i wanted a live system similar to that of ghost recon or perfect dark zero, and no one understood me, it is just custom games that are available for everyone to play, not just people on your friends list

yes, for the most-part matchmaking is a very good system, however, it's broken but only by people who choose to break it. there are too many players that have ranks they do not deserve whatever way they obtained them. this makes matchmaking unfair and therefore unbalance - the whole point of matchmaking is to pit players of equal or near equal skill against each other. add to this the 'de-rankers' and quiters, and the picture becomes a little clearer.

how many times have i played a game where the score ends up 49-50 or you're 10 points behind, 1 man down and still win? not as many as i would like but these, i would say, are good games.

xbox live and the matchmaking system, i would think, is still in it's infancy and i would expect that the problems with the system today are being worked on for tomorrow.

XBC is also a good system but not without it's own flaws. many games are unjoinable, laggy and there is no 'real' ranking system in place.

it would be nice to have the option, and i stress option, to create a public server, this way people would have a choice of which setup they would prefer to use. whether this will be implemented or not remains to be seen.

remember, it's about choice. i don't choose to go into matchmaking with cheats, de-rankers etc... (whatever team they are on) but on occasion i am forced into matchmaking with these people.

just my opinion...

Here are the #1 arguements why MM is not as good as being able to create public servers which people could join(Like in Counterstrike or Castle Wolfenstein): (NE 1 who disagrees..well i don't give a -blam!-)

-No More Cheating: If someone cheats in a particular room, well then just quit, let the cheaters play by themselves.

-Play gametypes that you want, not randomly generated ones that just suck ass.

-Join games alot faster. MM can take a hell of a long time when it cant find the right people.

-This eliminates the quitting problem as if someone quits no sweat, more people can join in.

-The party system was cool, but i think with it, you spend ALOT more time in the lobby setting up a game then actually paying. Having rounds, over and over again, lie in CS or Wolf TOW allows for alot more gameplay, and you can still play with your friends.

-Clanmatches would be alot easier, as there would be no need to add the other team (For stuff like CAL or MLG), you could simply seacrh for there server.

-Lag would significantly decreae, as only people with good connections would be able to host games. Also bungie could make there own servers which people could join that would be lag free.

-The above point could also possibly eliminate host advantage from H3, making it alot better, as having weaker weapons while being offhost makes no sense, and no other MP enabled game plays like that.

These are my top reasons why matchmaking and the party system just aren't that good. No criticism on H2 cuz it was an awesome game, its just H3 could be a hell of a lot better, thats all.

1. Just because were here telling that sending multiple friend requests work, does not mean that we are ALL from the States ;)

2. So, are you saying it's hard to find a friend from Europe? Because when I play really late (when all the 10 year olds are sleepling) I almost always get in a match with people from England or France. Heck, if you want, you can add me :D

Halo 2 made matchmaking. Every game I play now, I judge it a little less because they don't support gameplay with Live as well as Halo 2.

Whomever said it first, I agree. It is inventive, and it sets this game away from the rest. Up on a mountain. With a big gun.

You must be joking? Or you haven't really played any other games. I've been playing FPS for about a decade and Halo 2 has the worst online capabilities that I've ever seen. It's the biggest live game right now and doesn't even support clan play in matchmaking ... that tells you a lot.

I've played plenty of FPS' in my time. Most recently, CoD2, F.E.A.R., Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and many iterations of Counter-Strike.

As for Halo 2 having the 'worst online capabilities', I think you need to re-evaluate your standards for FPS' online. The matchmaking system is ingenious, quick, and hardly flawed, and it allows players from all over the world to play with each other in an organized fashion.

Another point, the party system goes hand in hand with that. I am consistently disappointed with any other FPS on the market because they don't do anything to emulate Halo 2's effective system.

As for Halo not supporting clan matches, that's a low blow (and blatantly an ignorant one) because it did support it from day one. By removing it, Bungie has once again listened to it's dedicated customers and done what it has felt as right.

Don't be stupid.
