One does not choose a destiny, his destiny is bestowed, shaped and formed, from the soul.

I have always wanted to work in the gaming industry. But I don't know what you would classify this under. I want to come up with the idea for a game, for example an RPG, and I want to write part of ir like the intro, explain what I want it to be about, how it plays and it's features, but can you do all that in one job. And can you enter te gaming industry to become a writer or This un-named job right out of college. Just wondering

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Kinda sounds like CEO to me.

Assistant to the CEO is more than likely what you're talking about.

2008 vs. 2011, I'm afriad there is a lack of understanding the history and patterns of the Flood here.

This thread does belong in the Flood. The OP probably decided he would get better awnsers to his question here.

Man of God. Fan of Bungie. Eater of many Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers.

Sounds a little bit like a writer. You wouldn't have any say on genre or much of how it plays either.

This site might help give you some perspective. Some parts have been updated more recently than others, but overall the advice here seems pretty solid.

So you're saying we should correct this dysfunctional posting by giving those who do this terrible answers?

The name's Ian, Game Designer at Whisper Game Studios, very off-and-on Bungie.net visitor and avid Bungie fan overall. Message me if you wish.

Sounds like Writer/Designer/Creative Director stuff.

Fight your way out; only scrubs and mashers jump out of the corner

I'd agree with Your MOM is MC - you're describing a writing and design role.

To pursue a role like that, you'll want strong writing skills so you can communicate your ideas. Skills like story boarding will also help.

Education wise, you'll want to look into either cognitive science programs or go to a vocational school like Full Sail that offers specialized game design programs.

However, I'd encourage you to scour over Gamasutra.com for articles related to the game design process to make sure the reality is something you're comfortable with. I tend to hear that games are not the result of a single designer handing material down, but the result of a collaborative process in which design ideas come from all over an organization. Make sure you know what you'd be getting yourself into before you dedicate yourself to this path, then go after it 120%!

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

A Person can only give 100%.. You expect them to go hire a mexican too or something for the extra 20?

I'll give it a 120% means, paying two guys at 60% a peice to do it for you.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

An "idea guy"? One that can envision something amazing and then depend on others to create what they imagine? And if it fails, it's the execution of the builders and a failure of them to translate the idea guys vision?

Yeah, the whole world needs more of those guys.
