Subject: An Annotation of the Septagon Forum Description and Topic Allowances

I think that, because of the fact that things like Destiny are already being allowed in the Community forum mainly because it's the easiest and most efficient place to have it done, that topics and threads pertaining to breaking into and getting education specifically for the gaming industry (or Bungie in general) should be allowed in the Septagon. I'm not saying that they should be required to be discussed here. If someone wanted to discuss the gaming industry in and of itself, how to get into it, how to educate for it, etc. in the Flood, that would still be perfectly fine.

I just think that with the frequency of Employees posting here, the fact that Breaking In articles (something directly related to breaking into the videogame industry) are posted here, and that the video game industry is such an integral part of this site as a whole are enough of a reason to allow things like that to be allowed in here.

Also, employees in this forum with moderation powers (when they even see the threads) tend to respond to them helpfully with a willingness to help the OP rather than scorn them for having placed something in the wrong location anyway. If the Bungie employees (representatives of the corporation which sponsors and runs this site) are passively admitting their acceptance of posting habits such as these, then I think that the forum descriptions and moderation practices should likewise reflect this acceptance.

Thoughts?

e: Forgot this:

TL;DR: Should topics about getting into and how to get educated for the video game industry be allowed in the Septagon? Why or why not?

Thats like saying uber nerf armor lock because like 20 percent of the community hates it. Oh wait..................

I think only if it pertains to entrance to bungie. But within those discussion is blanket advice that would help get an entry level position at pretty much any studio.

They do but it's always been unclear as to whether or not they're more appropriate for the Flood.

See this thread.

What does that thread have to do with getting into the game industry?

Yes. I get that. I've seen threads like that posted in this forum before. Personally, I just leave them alone.

What the -blam!-? I definitely did NOT link to that thread the first time.

Anyway, I meant to link to this: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=72974489

If such threads are legitimized then you risk them becoming ubiquitous and interfering with our arguments on topics from the connotations of specific rules to blocking new site features.

I'd rather these topics become ubiquitous than the overall selection of discussion become monotonous.

If you don't appreciate the discussions here why must you be so concerned with pushing them aside? There is already a forum designated for your desired threads, one which you will likely find more easy to appreciate.

edit because wording's a bastard

If they do get to the point of being ubiquitous, then you suffer the same effect as you do any other topic which gets repeated, in that they too make the forum monotonous.

It's never bad to inquire about a possible future career with people who have experience in that career, but if there is an influx of topics that arise (because they are made a lot more clear-cut in the rules as opposed to now), then what's to say that they won't become repetitive and monotonous?

Besides; aren't topics like that already allowed? I never see them get locked.

I wrote out a decent length post mainly saying "who gives a -blam!-" and my usual indifferant riffraff about how poor discussion already is, etc. but found that rather boring so I leave you with my answer as yes, we should for obvious reasons, no I will not elaborate and I will stew you and your family and eat you all for supper if it is the last thing I do. Also everyone would do well to stop using the word ubiquitous as it does not make you sound as smart as you would think and is getting rather hackneyed quickly. I personally resolve to only use that word if absolutely necessary from here on out. Good day.

I'd say people are using the word ubiquitous ubiquitously.

Yes, but because there's no actual, outright, agreed upon "clause" in the Community Forum forum description, there leads to confusion (like in the aforementioned thread).

That's all I'm saying. And I have seen video game industry threads locked before.

Wouldn't, "topics pertaining to the Bungie.net community" be covered by that? In my opinion, that covers subjects like getting into the game industry.
