In the first Halo book all the Spartan Assault Rifles on the Pillar of Autum are destroyed so the Spartans have to use standard Marine AR's. Could the new AR in the trailer be one of te Spartan AR's?

That would make sense, but remember the books are different from the orginal story line, so essentially they are just fan fiction that are long, and have been published

but the idea makes sense

The Spartans do not have their own "special assault rifles". They use the same ones everyone else does. And the books are NOT "fan fiction". They are in fact canon to the story.

yes they are, because if they were, we would see more spartans in halo 2

they add a bit of background, for example the Fall of Reach. We dont know if that actually happened, but it does add some insight to the spartans.

The flood is simply a summary of Halo, with some more background to make it easier to understand.

First strike is more fan fic than the other two. The story is really good, but it didnt necessarily happen.

You dont have read the books to understand the story line, the books fill some of the potholes. If you had to read the books to understand the storyline of the game, than we are talking about an entire different thing

Well if they are "canon" to the story then the new AR being the Spartan AR would make sense. Did you even read the book? Maybe you should before you start flamming about something you know nothing about.

Why? The books accompany the games, they dont intrude into each other. The books are canon.

The books can be canon. Bungie can use (or not use) anything from the books and put it in the games if they wanted too.

It is the official prequel. bungie said they are directly related to the games.

It did actually happen,we dont know what happned between first strike and Halo 2. Who knows where the other spartans are?

You dont have to read that books to undertsand the game, but they are still directly related to the games...

And spartans never had special assault rifles. I dont know what your talking about.

I refer to this thread for proof that the books are in fact canon to the story. No,you do not have to read them, but they do have an impact.

There is no Spartan AR. All the Marines used the MA5B, then the military developed the new rifle.

I'm not sure whats different about them. The book just said that they were destroyed and they had to use the standard ones.

I agree with you on that

So you are telling me, if aliens would attack earth right now, you would not send you BEST soldiers to help defend? That makes no sense what so ever. Spartans are supposed to be the best, why in the world would you not use them? I

Some books are, some books arent. Like the Star Wars books, you DONT have to read them to understand the movies. Sure they are related, but does it make it true? Not neccesarily.

And spartans never had special assault rifles. I dont know what your talking about. If you say the books are related to the games, reread The Flood when they are about to land on halo. I didnt say they actually had them, but it would make sense to see the reason why the AR came back for Halo 3

there are actually things from halo 2 that were origionally introduced into the halo univirse in the books such as: prophets, the battle rifle, brutes and the drones.

The books ARE official and they DO affect the storyline. Bungie told the writers what to write about, Eric Nylund and (that other writer) filled in what happens. I know for a fact that Nylund gives props to a couple Bungie employees in the 'Acknowledgements' section at the beginning of First Strike.

I never said they didnt have a impact, I'm saying they are most likely not related to the story line itsself. Sure they had some good insight, and makes some parts of the game easier to understand.

Fall of Reach is, because it has the title THE OFFICIAL PREQUEL First strike, however, does not have that title. IT should say the OFFICIAL SEQUEL but it doesnt. They reason why Bungie probably endorsed it is because they felt it was a good story, and probably as accurate as it can get.

yes they are,

They are not fan fiction. The Authors worked closely with Bungi and had acess to the Halo Stroy Bible. They were writting Bungie's story/

because if they were, we would see more spartans in halo 2

Firts Strike ends over one month before the start of Halo 2. Those Spartans could be somewhere else in the Halo Universe or dead.

they add a bit of background, for example the Fall of Reach. We dont know if that actually happened, but it does add some insight to the spartans.

It did happen. The events from The Fall of Reach were taken from the Halo Stroy Bible.

First strike is more fan fic than the other two. The story is really good, but it didnt necessarily happen.

First Strike did happen, and is canon, like all the rest of the Halo novels.

How Stuff Works: The novelization of a video game is, well ... novel. Where does Eric Nyland <sic> get the background for his books?

Pete Parsons: We work closely with him on all the stories. So what we do is we have these story arcs of the "Halo" universe, and Eric goes in and says, "Well that's a really good piece to take and here is in a microcosm what I think that story will look like."

Halo Story Page: Would the books make the cut?

Joseph Staten: The books are, for better or worse, part of the canon

There is the fact that bungie themselves stated that the books arent the full, tottally true storyline. Anyone thought of that?

Bungie said they will NOT follow the books story because the books are teh secondary story, the games primary. Just like the Halo Graphic novel, they answer questions not answered in the game stories because they dont need to be covered.

And no, there was no Spartan AR, only the smaller version in earlier books which all marines could use.
