Here are the specs of my computer.

Pentium 4 2.2ghz
512mbs ram
nVidia geforce FX5200
Windows Vista Beta 2 (legal cd key from microsoft)

Then I installed Halo on it. I started it up and installed the patch from bungie. Then I started it up again and it will play all the bungie logos and stuff but it never displays the menu.

Is it halo or is Vista really that much of a CPU hog?

Your computer is barely good enough to run Vista, and it's a beta. So of course you're going to have problems with the beta.

Stay away from betas, especially OS betas...those things are useable, sure, but they have more potential to do more damage than good. Don't get caught up in the hype and start installing Vista Beta on your primary computer.

The OS is the program that dictates when to use the processor, how to use the GPU, how to cool the computer, etc, etc. This also conversely means that without the OS, your precious computer is nothing but an extremely expensive paperweight. So I wouldn't try fcvking it up by installing a beta onto it.

If anything, install it onto a spare computer you have lying around, that would be far safer.

As for Halo, before you installed the Beta, did Halo run on the computer? And if it did run well, then there's the problem right there. Uninstall Vista and revert back to your previous version of Windows.

Install it on another hard drive, an empty one, thatway your OS and files are separate and you can boot from either HD.

nd Im perty sure no1 kan undarstand u if u talk liek dis lol

(I'm sorry, but seeing that I study English as a major...I shiver each time I see that sort of thing...)

You can get Vista beta if you sign up for the beta list...when they get to your particular number, they give you a beta Vista with registration key and everything, set to expire after about 2 to 3 months.

I basically have the same specs and I run a Vista Beta on a partioned hard drive so I can have both XP and Vista. I plan on upgrading my computer when Halo 2 pc comes out because it takes advantage of DirectX 10 video card. Of course I'm not getting a DX 10, but a good one that will run Halo 2. I harly use Vista because of bugs and stuff so stick with XP till Beta 3 comes around.

and perty is an intentional word, i kno im saying (or ehhh typing...) it.

u major in english?!? no wonder your evil

STOP. TYPING. LIKE. THAT. I know this is Master Kim's responsibility, but for Cheezus Krysts sake, stop typing like that. PLEASE. Go pay for some grammar school, trust me, you'll be saying to yourself how you have lived all these years without the knowledge of proper English once you start getting it...

Anyways, getting back to the subject. As everyone said, don't get a Beta OS. Installing a Beta OS is basically like drinking milk...from an EMPTY carton.

Yes, we are mean. And I'm sorry if I offended you ImSpartacus, but seriously, it's hard to read with that kind of typing. Anyways, I apologize for any rudeness I may have attached to you.

Well...

Yes I know it is beta.

Yes i didn't install it on a different comptuer for testing.

Yes it is just testing.

Yes it isn't my primary computer.

Yes I'm a programmer and need the least version of anything to get my stuff out asap when the full version comes out.

Yes I usally use Mac, but vista cought my eye.

I also would like to see if I can get games to run on it.

So far...

nVidia cards have issues.
Battlefeild 2 doesn't work (won't install because of vista)
Halo (need really high requirments)
Need for speed 3 and Most wanted (not tested)
Age of empires 1,2,3 (still yet to test)

My system specs have got to be enough
Pentium 4 HT 3.4 Ghz

Please don't double-post, there's a self-explanatory edit button right there.

Your PC has more than the required specs to run it.

I seem to be having the same problem as the topic starter... I have the patch installed but after the microsoft intro thingy the Game wont load the menu and i get a looping sound of the Ohhhoohoh thingy. I installed it on my only computer because 2 computers is pointless. And i don't feel like formatting my HD.
