Subject: How would you recreate Halo fiction?

People bash other people's opinion's using "facts" too much.

Think about all of the previous Halo fiction (games, novels, etc.) and discuss how you would recreate the Halo universe. Forget inconsistencies and plot holes. Those can't exist if you remade the universe to your liking.

Go.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I would have changed the fact that Spartan III's had SPI and would have given them MJOLNIR Mark IV. That would alter history and make them survive (in my universe). Eventually, Ackerson's idea of a hundred thousand Spartans would be completed with each Spartan training a batch of kids and riddling the UNSC lines with super-soldiers.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I would not have Reach's campaign be canon.

I would not have James get lost in space. D:

I'd make so the Needler never existed in the books or games.

This, alongside Parangosky dieing horribly during the Battle of Reach.

Likewise Elite-Human peace talks would advance without major trouble due to the growing group of Elites who respect humans, and all humanities efforts would be placed in reconstructing Earth and the damaged but surviving inner colonies, Not chasing half assed super warship designs or enraging the elites.

Oh yeah, I would replace the components of the MJOLNIR armors and replace them with carbon nanotubes, ensuring anti-ballistic armor and superior plasma resistance.

edit:
It would also give them even more strength. an 8 mm chord of artificial muscle made out of carbon nanotubes has the same strength as two human arms. now see this that's more than 8mm, so...do the calculations :P

Might be tough and strong, but IMO looks blah as heck :P. Put some plates over it, even for show and I'd probably love it :P.

The Koreans tried it, didn't work that well :P

Elder and I discussed about it, and apparently no weapon from the UNSC bar the Spartan Laser and Rocket Launcher would actually harm the Nanosuit, so it would be a really good asset for them.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

For starters, I would render everything Karen Traviss has done with the post-war Halo story non-canon.

  • 06.23.2012 12:01 AM PDT

What a waste....

Lighter Than Some would be alive and would replace Virgil and Dadab would be with him.

Maccabeus would kill Tartarus and we'd fight him instead in Halo 2.

Sergeant Byrne would appear more.

Johnson and Miranda would live.

Reach would have correct timestamps.

THIS IS MY HEADCANON AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME

Actually, I kinda like the NK nanosuit version. In appearance that is. :P.

Edit: On topic, IF Parangosky doesn't die. I'd have her arrested by the UNSC after Blue team returns to Earth for illegal arresting of Halsey. Because Hood would ACTUALLY debrief them and learn of Halsey's imprisonment.

Then, ONI's funding and assets would be completely frozen and sorted through by the Admiralty board, all their AI's shut down until further notice. Any current projects would instantly frozen (Infinity, S4's, etc) until evualated by an Admirality board picked review team.

Captain Osmen (Or whoever was Parangosky's personally picked successor + pupil) would NOT receive a promotion. Hell, she'd be likely to face demotion as ONI's actions concerning the elites are made public. All remaining Covenant weapons would be given to Thel or held securely. The engineer Osmen's team took would be returned, and the team would also face charges concerning purposeful attempts to disrupt the shaky peace.

Meanwhile on the Elite homeworld, the growing movement of Elites who respect humanity would side with Thel, allowing him to gain the strength needed to squash groups like the Servants of Abiding truth. Then, the shaky peace is worked toward a solid peace treaty.

Dr Halsey is freed and begins work concerning Forerunner tech, and such advances are shared with the Elites (primarily those aligned with Thel). Likewise, Human engineers help the elites rebuild their economy and teach them how to maintain their gear, farm the fields, and otherwise keep themselves alive.

ONI meanwhile, is stripped apart, their resources moved to rebuilding the Sol system. They are then REBUILT in the actual parameters of what they are supposed to be, and a new leader hand picked by the board of Admirals takes control. No more Cerberus copying bull-blam!-.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

I would change quite a lot, but one thing comes to mind right now:

I would have Sanghelios destroyed (glassed by Prophets or something), forcing human and sangheili post-war survivors to rebuild on Earth. Sangheili culture would be lost, they would have to come up with something new, heavily influenced by human culture. Glassed planets would be glassed, no -blam!- about them just partially being glassed.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

- Humans and Sangheili become allies after the end of the Human-Covenant war, out of mutual respect for each other they begin to overcome their differences and under the leadership of Lord Hood and Thel 'Vadam (supported closely by Rtas 'Vadum) they peacefully cooperate.

- Glassed planets stay glassed.

- Covenant is completely finished, client races either stagnate or go back to their roots.

- Forerunners split into factions, one side (led by the Master Builder) is using humans to rebuild their empire and technology so when the Forerunners are ready they can swoop in and take back their 'Mantle'. The other is led by the Librarian who sees humanity as the rightful holders of their 'Mantle' and wants to prepare them for the return of the Precursors to finish the job they failed.

  • 06.23.2012 8:02 AM PDT

All the Forerunners would be dead, after mass suicide by the Halo rings.

This I think should've happened anyway.

The fact the Covenant appear in Halo 4 annoys me greatly even without knowing any of the details. We freaking destroyed them in Halo 3. For them to return is just making the Sacrifice of Johnson and Miranda... bleh.

From what I gather, it's for the sake of familiarity b implementing what I like to call the 'nostalgia factor' right off the bat to get players invested. I imagine the first mission will play out in a similar fashion to The Pillar of Autumn in Halo CE.

However, I find it slightly concerning that not only are the Covenant being fought for (at least) a third of the game, they're still not going to be finished by the end of the game because they're present in Spartan Ops which is set 6 months after the end of the game...

Might as well get used to this, eh?

  • 06.23.2012 9:22 AM PDT

What a waste....

Oh, and the Forerunners fired the Halos and all died. That's it. No shenanigans. Everyone just died.

  • 06.23.2012 12:33 PM PDT

Made it so that Spartan IV's are slightly weaker. When you mass produce something at first, you have to give up something.

If I couldn't change that then I would at least emphasize that plasma weapons could actually melt off your face, and state that the gameplay is just that...gameplay.

Also post Halo 4, the next game would be filling in missing stories. Like what happened to Grey team or what Gamma company did for example. I would alternate between these stories and Halo 4-6.

Bot really. That implies medical technology can't advance to the point where the augmentations are safer...like the S-IIIs.

  • 06.23.2012 12:51 PM PDT

All the Spartans on reach die except for chief.

[Edited on 06.23.2012 1:43 PM PDT]

All the Spartans would have died so that Master Chief really was the last of his kind, and he would be characterised more within the games.
Chief and Arby wouldn't have partnered up with the Flood at the end of The Covenant either.
I'd continue the ODST plotline, and maybe have a nice story centred around the lives of Chips Dubbo and Pete Stacker.
And some sort of relationship between Noble Six and The Rookie. They're so similar, I'd like them to have some sort of connection (possibly familial).

The Spartan III program still had slightly broader genetic markers and the children still had to be trained to peak physical condition for their augments.

I doubt the technology jumped ahead in 4 years to the point where Spartans no longer have to be at the very peak of physical fitness before augments and genetic markers aren't required.

The UNSC is rebuilding. I honestly don't see how they could blow millions on research like that.

If you cannot provide proof or simply cannot provide a rational, logical argument then don't say anything at all.

1. Drop Halo Reach's canon

2. Have Yayap survive and lead an army of grunts into battle during First Strike

3. Have 2401 Penitent Tangent play a bigger role in Halo 2

4. Exclude all of Karen Travis's writings from canon

5. Drop Halo Wars from canon

6. Make the rookie talk in Halo 3 ODST instead of running around the city like an idiot because you're to damn cool to answer your comms

7. Have Kurt live and Lucy detonate the nuke in Ghosts of Onyx

8. Halo 2 Multiplayer Servers would never go down. Ever.

I think that pretty much covers it.

Why exclude Halo Wars? I've seen plenty of Reach bashing but few Halo Wars ones.

Also, Rookie was mute by choice. And he DOES answer his comm. Not with words, but he does acknowledge it. Difference between being an idiot and a person with a vow of silence (Or a PTSD style disorder similar to Lucy.)

For 7, why not have the nuke be on a timer or remote det? :P.
