Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

I'd say yes, and here's why:

My theory is quite simple actually, it all boils down to: what else?

In the multiplayer (Infinity) and coop (Spartan Ops) component of Halo 4 the player will take control of a Spartan IV wearing second generation Mjolnir armour. This is supposedly the only character one will be able to play as (although only in 4. 5 and 6 might add).

This is why I believe that the combat skin eventually will have to surface, cause even though it is possible to customize the Spartans armour, I doubt a slight change of parts will be able to stay fresh for three games. Just take Reach as an example. Say you've acquired all the armour, then what, are you supposed to do that over and over again three times? Well why not? Other than that it might not feel half as fresh the other time around, or third...

343i would have to do something to impress, and why not by adding something that actually already exists in the Halo universe, opposed to making something up, just for the sake of it.

If you don't know what the Combat Skin is, here's what Halopedia has to say:

Halopedia Combat Skin is a Forerunner term referring to body armor used by combat personnel. The Forerunners had a classification system for combat skins, running from Class 1 to 18, and possibly above. According to 343 Guilty Spark, the human MJOLNIR Mark V is ranked on this scale as equal to a Class 2.

What do you think? Will the Chief and his fellow Spartans change, or will they forever sport the Mjolnir armour? Or will they save it for a Forerunner prequel trilogy?
Or will the Mjolnir eventually evolve into a Forerunner armour?

--------------------------------------------------------------

I for one have ever since 343 blabbered about it hoped to see Chief eventually finding himself wearing it. It was like a small hint of what was to come!

No, I don't believe he has.

I don't know, customization and completely interchangeable armour is already pretty key to the franchise, so maybe it will come as one of the new armour skins.
It's not too far-fetched, even if they don't actually have it and it's just wearable in the training simulations aboard the infinity or something like that.

The thing with combat skins is they are ridiculously powerful. If Mjolnir Mk. V is only equal to a Class 2 (out of 18) skin, then the majority of the skins are incredibly strong. For it to work, you'd need to introduce a whole new enemy so that the balance was there. I really doubt they'll appear as useable equipment in-game.

Oh, I'm sorry, should have been clearer about that. The Combat Skin would of coarse have some kind of customization too, just not in the same way.

I actually think that this new enemy that has yet to be revealed fully would be a good excuse for a forerunner combat skin.
A good idea is that the new enemy just hijacked the promethean defenses and the forerunner ally with the humans to take out the new threat which is if it precursor. You can be sure humanity would be given some extremely advanced equipment.

First of all, if the Covenant are out of the picture, why not allow the new enemy to mach the Combat Skin in different ways (depending on which class they are), secondly, one could just as well limit it to class II Combat Skin?
I don't see why it wouldn't work.
