I'm curious to see if anyone on the bungie forums likes Halo 4 so far. Personally, I am really despising Halo 4.
Now, I'm just curious at the communities response, I know some people hate it like I do, I know some people will get it just because its a halo game, and I have seen that apparently a lot of people are liking it . . . somehow. So, pick Good if you will get it and like it, or Bad if you dislike it.

And I know right now I'm sounding as a complaining little kid right now (as some people would call this), but I'm putting this down here just because. I'm not going to get to far into detail, but the main two reasons why I despise Halo 4 are that 343i is continuing the story of Master Chief (which should have been dropped at halo 3, don't try to fix what isn't broken), and the second fact that they are calling this game "Halo". In everything I have seen about it, they have removed what makes halo games halo to give it a more "modern feel" (for example, there won't be any power weapons, or even regular weapons, on the map, that's what ordnance drops and custom load-outs are for now). Honestly, I will say that if 343i made a game like this, said they were greatly inspired by the Halo franchise, I would get it. But since they are making it "halo", I'm not going to even get the game if it was free.

From what I've seen, I like it. But we don't really know until we actually play the game.

I'm going to debunk half of your paragraph in one sentence: literally none of the new features they've been marketing such as ordinance drops, "random" weapon spawns or even custom loadouts are universal; they are relevant only to the Infinity game types, and likely some others.

In short, they have confirmed that there will be classic playlists. We already know that Slayer BR's is back, for example. The very first thing we EVER saw from the game was a Slayer BR's match.

It's just that they don't market and talk about the old stuff because its the old stuff.

Onto your first point: There are more than ten major plot points left unresolved in Halo 3, with some even being introduced in Halo 3.

Note: * refers to plot points introduced in Halo 3

1) 6 of the 7 Halo rings remain primed and ready to fire.

*2) The Gravemind tells us that defeat on delays his inevitable return at the end of Halo 3, so the Flood are still around.

*3) Medicant Bias virtually screams to the player that the Chief's story is not done, informing us that:

*4) The Forerunners are not all dead...

*5) ...and that the path to the Forerunners is "frought with peril," suggesting a new threat.

*6) No explanation whatsoever was given to these mysterious new beings referenced by the Didact called the Precursors.

*7) Nor was any explanation given as to what "following in their footsteps" means.

*7.1) Therefore, The Great Journey does in fact exist, but has been misinterpretted by the Prophets. What is the Journey, and what is the signifigance?

8) Mankind has yet to uphold their destiny as the guardians of the universe (as mankind's destiny is the entire thematic point of the series, not continuing the story would mean voiding the relevance of the franchise as a story)

9) We do not know if humanity can survive the inevitable tensions between the Covenant client races, the Elites, and themselves.

*10) We did not know (at the time, until Cryptum) what made Mankind so special and worth saving in the eyes of Librarian.

*11) Cortana, who holds the largest wealth of Forerunner knowledge in the universe aside from the 'Runners themselves, is slowly drifting into insanity.

*12) And finally, Master Chief, the selected messenger of Medicant Bias, is drifting near an unknown Forerunner world at the very end of Halo 3.

So tell me: why should they not continue the story?

This post just tells me you haven't been on the internet in 2 years. Bungie, 2 years ago, confirmed that they WANTED to do Halo 4, but their contract expired in one game, so they did Reach instead. They did not want to "open any doors we couldn't close" since they knew Halo 4 would take more than one game to tell the story of.

The reason why they didn't do a Master Chief was precisely because they wanted to do one, and do it right. But as circumstance would have it, they couldn't do it at all, so handed to over to 343i.

-_-

Not only did Bungie consider making Halo 4, they also had Isaac Hannaford (one of their artists) draw up a concept for a Promethean. The idea was scrapped because they knew they'd have to make it into a new trilogy, there was too much baggage for them to handle when they had only 1 game left on their contract.

Refrain from saying moronic things in the future and do a bit of research before you even think of touching your keyboard...

"I'm gonna make sure that when we win, everyone's gonna know what a beating we gave you!" -Dutch

I'm liking the gameplay I've seen so far, but I don't really like how the new Spartans look.

  • 06.23.2012 11:18 AM PDT

Story is iffy, but I MUST know what happens to Chief.

Also, gameplay looks fine.

Just take the game for what it is. It's Halo 4. Not Halo 3. Also if Halo 4 isn't a "Halo" game because it's FPS elements are different...then by that logic Halo Wars wasn't even close to a "Halo" game.

Halo Wars in every way was a Halo game. It had the epic struggle of Humanity vs Covenant, Spartans, the Flood, Forerunners, etc.

So don't even think that Halo 4 isn't a Halo game. If Halo Wars, which has gameplay NOTHING like Halo 3's, is a Halo game...then Halo 4, which has SIMILAR gameplay to Halo 3, is a Halo game for sure.

Anyone else think that the Promethean concept art looks quite like the Geth from Mass Effect?

Anyway, on topic, I'm still on the fence overall - some features I like the sound of, while other things seem to put me off slightly. I probably will buy Halo 4 in the end, and will decide if I like the game or not when I've actually played it.

That's not concept art of a Promethean. It's a Forerunner armor suit.

Why don't you? The file refers to it as a Promethean and since it's carrying advanced weapons integrated into the suit itself, common sense dictates it's a Warrior-Servant.

First thing that came to my mind was mass effect, so I agree with you on that.

And, to all the other responses, sorry I'm being skeptical about this game, I just don't want someone ruining the halo franchise, and I never really like 343 anyways, so I am definitely going to be highly skeptical to whatever 343 does. If bungie was making it, I'd be more open, but we are all free to think what we think. I'm not trying to get you to not buy the game or play it, I'm just voicing my opinion (even if it is misinformed). I just don't like 343, I love halo, and, again, I don't want to see anyone mess it up.
I also know that is too early to make any definite opinion, but I'm not liking what I see so far. Those two reasons up there aren't close to what I dislike. But yet, some of what I dislike is on complete bias opinion and personal preference as well (and with those I probably wouldn't get the game even if it was its own original game).
On a side note, and to give you guys something else to argue about, I also think that 343 should've gradually made infinity slayer what it is, cause, as you can clearly see with all the complaints about it, its too soon, too early. If you make a big change in gameplay like 343 is doing with their infinity slayer gametypes, and if you just spontaneously put it out their on the very next game, there will be kickback. But if you gradually lead into it, by making acceptable changes throughout games, or DLC's or updates, people would be playing what they are complaining about without even noticing.

Assuming you can't have a social life and have knowledge about Halo at the same time.
You said something stupid and you were corrected. Why are you upset?

On topic: I'm excited for Halo 4. Personally, I strongly disliked the multiplayer for Reach, and I'm hoping Halo 4 is an improvement. I'm extremely excited to play the campaign, however.

Overall, I like what I've seen so far. There's been some things that I think of as questionable, like custom loadouts and sprinting available for everyone, but, overall, I think 343 is doing a good job. That being said, I'm not going to form a concrete opinion until I actually play it, but as far as first impressions go, I like what I see.

I'm not trying to make people look like an idiot, I'm just slightly annoyed that a full year into Halo 4's publically announced life and people still forget just how little Halo 3 closed anything. Same with the new features. The complaining about the new features boils down to complaining about additional options for a game franchise renowned for its near limitless possibilities. None of the features are mandatory, you don't HAVE to play Infinity Slayer, you can still play classic slayer with its own rules, so why are so many people complaining?

But ultimately, what really bothers me is OP saying he doesn't like 343i. Having opinions about other stuff like Legends or the books is one thing, but as a game studio, we have seen nothing at all. They published Anniversary, they didn't make it (aside from that, there really is nothing wrong with it). As a game studio, we can only look at their employees. And their employees are some of the best in the world.

Take it from the dozens of MLG Pros and community members who got to play the game early. Halo 4 is being universally lauded. They're saying the game plays and feels like Halo, with even a few MLGers calling out the CoD comparisons as bull -blam!-.

Even Bungie themselves have endorsed 343i on Twitter, saying "they're doing great work." Yet people still complain and doubt.

The way I see it, complaining is just a waste of energy, as is doubting. What the game is, is what it is, and aside from making constructive criticisms and suggestions, nothing will change what it is. Halo's gameplay has never been its identifying feature to me--Halo 1 is fundamentally a Quake game that works on consoles, so I just take the gameplay for what it is and have fun. It's indentifying feature has been its setting for me, and as (most) people will agree, 343i overall seems ready to take care of the universe.

I like it.

A lot of the Halo 3 fanbase is terrible.

They have basically hated on every Halo game since 2007 for not being "Halo" and are intent on worshiping what is in my opinion, the worst game of the trilogy.

So I look forward to Halo 4, regardless of the complainers, who I find that for the majority of the time, they worship Halo 3.
