I'm going to debunk half of your paragraph in one sentence: literally none of the new features they've been marketing such as ordinance drops, "random" weapon spawns or even custom loadouts are universal; they are relevant only to the Infinity game types, and likely some others.
In short, they have confirmed that there will be classic playlists. We already know that Slayer BR's is back, for example. The very first thing we EVER saw from the game was a Slayer BR's match.
It's just that they don't market and talk about the old stuff because its the old stuff.
Onto your first point: There are more than ten major plot points left unresolved in Halo 3, with some even being introduced in Halo 3.
Note: * refers to plot points introduced in Halo 3
1) 6 of the 7 Halo rings remain primed and ready to fire.
*2) The Gravemind tells us that defeat on delays his inevitable return at the end of Halo 3, so the Flood are still around.
*3) Medicant Bias virtually screams to the player that the Chief's story is not done, informing us that:
*4) The Forerunners are not all dead...
*5) ...and that the path to the Forerunners is "frought with peril," suggesting a new threat.
*6) No explanation whatsoever was given to these mysterious new beings referenced by the Didact called the Precursors.
*7) Nor was any explanation given as to what "following in their footsteps" means.
*7.1) Therefore, The Great Journey does in fact exist, but has been misinterpretted by the Prophets. What is the Journey, and what is the signifigance?
8) Mankind has yet to uphold their destiny as the guardians of the universe (as mankind's destiny is the entire thematic point of the series, not continuing the story would mean voiding the relevance of the franchise as a story)
9) We do not know if humanity can survive the inevitable tensions between the Covenant client races, the Elites, and themselves.
*10) We did not know (at the time, until Cryptum) what made Mankind so special and worth saving in the eyes of Librarian.
*11) Cortana, who holds the largest wealth of Forerunner knowledge in the universe aside from the 'Runners themselves, is slowly drifting into insanity.
*12) And finally, Master Chief, the selected messenger of Medicant Bias, is drifting near an unknown Forerunner world at the very end of Halo 3.
So tell me: why should they not continue the story?Well OP, this person has just made you look like an idiot. ROBERTO, I salute you.
I'm not trying to make people look like an idiot, I'm just slightly annoyed that a full year into Halo 4's publically announced life and people still forget just how little Halo 3 closed anything. Same with the new features. The complaining about the new features boils down to complaining about additional options for a game franchise renowned for its near limitless possibilities. None of the features are mandatory, you don't HAVE to play Infinity Slayer, you can still play classic slayer with its own rules, so why are so many people complaining?
But ultimately, what really bothers me is OP saying he doesn't like 343i. Having opinions about other stuff like Legends or the books is one thing, but as a game studio, we have seen nothing at all. They published Anniversary, they didn't make it (aside from that, there really is nothing wrong with it). As a game studio, we can only look at their employees. And their employees are some of the best in the world.
Take it from the dozens of MLG Pros and community members who got to play the game early. Halo 4 is being universally lauded. They're saying the game plays and feels like Halo, with even a few MLGers calling out the CoD comparisons as bull -blam!-.
Even Bungie themselves have endorsed 343i on Twitter, saying "they're doing great work." Yet people still complain and doubt.
The way I see it, complaining is just a waste of energy, as is doubting. What the game is, is what it is, and aside from making constructive criticisms and suggestions, nothing will change what it is. Halo's gameplay has never been its identifying feature to me--Halo 1 is fundamentally a Quake game that works on consoles, so I just take the gameplay for what it is and have fun. It's indentifying feature has been its setting for me, and as (most) people will agree, 343i overall seems ready to take care of the universe.
