F5 should do the trick.

What?? No way, I totally consider halo reach as canon, though halo 4 isn't going to be on my list, halo is bungie, period.

  • 07.18.2012 10:48 AM PDT

Halo Reach, and Halo Wars for that matter, are canon.

Despite what we may like or dislike, Bungie (and now 343i) decide what canon is.

Also, I believe it was stated that game canon > book canon except for gameplay mechanics I believe (e.g. Superheated plasma in reality could melt human flesh).

We have no say in what is and isn't canon.

And what about what I've chosen to consider as canon? I´m a huge bungie and halo fan but it should have ended with their creators, now I'm just seeing everywhere a Bungie-halo wannabe with the whole purpose of selling it's name and not being what I loved for so many years. May not be an official canon but I chose to believe that halo ended with reach. Is it legal?

  • 07.18.2012 11:30 AM PDT

You are free to choose what you want.

But that's still like believing that water, earth, wind, and fire are still elements when they are not.

Pick and chose your canon, but it will not be the real canon. The real canon includes all the games. Discard one, and your canon is broken and incomplete.

Also 343i is made up of huge Halo fans like ourselves. Personally I like the story of Halo 4, or at least what they are doing with Chief.

Chief was a badass but I felt like he WAS the suit of armour, not a man inside the suit.

Personally, how happy would you be with no more Halo forever? I'd rather have some Halo than no Halo. Maybe not a trilogy like 343i did but they could have explored some loose ends, like Gamma Company or Grey Team.

Again let me state this. We have NO say in what is and isn't canon. That's like trying to say that the Hobbit isn't canon to the Lord of the Rings universe because you don't like it.

It clearly is.

Oh Yes!

Sure, but I think of Halo: Reach as an alternate universe.

some keypoints didn't add up. such as the entire PoA level and the point of cortana- point as in why that was so important that the ship had to wait for her and the information they "didn't directly use afterward".

Long time no see, grey.

OT: Wasn't it said in the encyclopedia that the Catha artifact was the coordinates for 04? Can't verify because I don't have the newest edition.

Yea you too, i've returned to get my mythic back which shouldn't be hard.

It was the premise of it. Cortana could have functioned just as fine without the fragment of herself as she did in First Strike so there was absolutely no reason for the PoA to wait for her which i will dig out later.

The PoA shouldn't have even gotten through the atmosphere seeing as it was a skeleton at that point and the planet was covered by hundreds of covenant ships which were attacking targets from orbit. if they were attacking armies and individual soldiers then i see no reason why the PoA wasn't destroyed when they clearly got the rest of the drydock and were aware of its location.

not to mention the ship that was moving to attack the PoA didn't need to get directly over it to destroy it. had it unloaded all of its fighters that would have done the job not to mention the pulse lasers, plasma torpedoes and plasma turrets.

I don't care what anybody says; Halsey was heavily implying that if they didn't find something important that humanity would lose the war which makes it even more interesting that they had the location of PoA and went there right after they got cortana which isn't how it happened in the lore.

Yeah, it was a plot hole. I don't care about it, though. Retcons happen all the time and that is what Reach was: a big retcon. In the end, the plot plays out the same way. The way I see it is that PoA was never part of the space battle. It was still on Reach and had yet to go up to begin Red Flag. ONI jumps the gun, brings in the Covenant, and Reach happens. That is just my interpretation.

well you really should support that type of retcon since it wasn't needed and only makes things of a lesser quality if accepted. apparently reach wasn't true from the start just ONI propaganda until 343 made it canon. That is the issue with reach people have there own interpretation of the events and use that to get around it. I see it for what the game is and i am calling it out directly.

You misunderstand my position. I am jaded about the whole debacle; I just don't care anymore. Canon is getting too convoluted. 90% of the main Halo story (by which I mean John's story and related events, not a bunch of the Legends shorts, or Evolutions 1&2) takes place in a timespan of a few months in 2552. Rather than going back to the 2540s or 2530s, everyone is trying to shove more and more story in that small period. Had 343 left it as maybe-true-maybe-false this whole debacle would've been much easier. I accept Reach because you never know what it will lead to. Say what you will about the main plot, I would gladly keep Reach canon if it meant more of the Assembly, or maybe what the Catha artifact does.

  • 07.18.2012 5:15 PM PDT

Really, this whole topic is a beaten horse.

I mean, I'm curious why the Reach topics are appearing again? I thought nearly all the debating about it and Canon were done?

  • 07.18.2012 5:31 PM PDT

If anyone wants to get together and play some Marathon Durandal on the xbox contact me and we can work something out.

Unfortunately it is still cannon, do i like it? No i dont but it is cannon none the less.

I don't really mind that Reach is canon despite all of the inconsistency, I'm still way more disappointed in the missed opportunities in the game itself in terms of storytelling; the Trafalgar, the Super MACs, the Defense Fleet, Red Team, large scale ground battles that we actually took part in, underneath CASTLE, the Spartan training grounds..... you know?

Microsoft was Halo's creator, Bungie was just the developer. They created the framework for the franchise, with all the 'realistic' shooters out there I am extremely happy to see Halo continue.

But back to my point without Microsoft picking up Halo, Halo 1 may have been the last Halo and possibly Bungie's last game. Halo on Mac would not have been the success it was on the Xbox.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

I don't see how Microsoft were the creators when Halo was firstly a Mac game at first. You could ay Microsoft provided the foundation for Halo to get big, but Bungie are the creators.

I believe the Sigma Octanus artifact revealed the coordinates of Installation 04, while Babd Catha Artifact gave the coordinates of Threshold.

Stated in a 343i video, Halo CE, part 1 or something like that.

No. Why should I? game canon > book canon and when MS just lets Nylund write what he wants then it's no surprise that Bungie doesn't care what he wrote.

Bolded part: It's no longer applicable since Bungie is no longer maintaining Halo, which their canon policy is completely null and void now. We do have a source or two where 343i changed canon policy by making games = books as primary canon.

Cat's shields were down cause *drumroll* THE GLASSING BEAM. Radiation overload. Not how NONE of Noble Team's shields went up after putting helms on. So if you accuse Kat of not activating her shields, then you must do so for Jun and Carter (though I'm sure many would jump at the chance to call them all stupid and derptastic.)

Then why did the elevator work?

EMP resistant equipment, shields are weak against EMP.

If i remember correctly, it was mentioned in the COle protol that the Spartans armour is EMP hardened as welll, as shown when they set off the EMP on the Kestrel.

Yeah, but the shields aren't. Even if it wasn't EMP, it was a lot of radiation coming from that glassing beam.

Meepzoid

So you think the flaw is the epic battles or feeling of total wars is lost in the game? This is one of my problems with the game too. Really the game doesn't make you feel you are fighting a crucial epic battle. However I don't blame them, there is only so far that the Xbox 360 can push.

But yes I consider the Video games more canon then the books.

If you cannot provide proof or simply cannot provide a rational, logical argument then don't say anything at all.

I won't ever accept it. Ever. Same goes for that monstrosity known as "Halo Wars" Key points for why I hate Halo Reach: 1.What happened to the SPI armor Spartan III's were given instead of the MJOLNIR armor. Alpha and Beta group Spartans? Seriously? Reach fell in a day, not weeks. George, the whole concept behind him aggravates me. I could go on and on.
