Subject: Online And Offline Notification / More Detailed [Last Active]

Spread the love...

More detailed "Last Active" message. (this could be toggled off and on for users who want to maintain some privacy)

Online / Offline notification (or something that looks like this). (there could be an "appear offline" feature, again for users wanting more privacy)

What do you think?

This could help with knowing who's online/offline for private messages or something.

Chicken go cluck cluck cow go moo

That would be an awesome addition to the site, but the exact time might be too far...

Hah thanks!

Hmmm...I could see the "exact time" being a privacy issue for some people...maybe a "toggle off/on" option for users? You can choose how detailed your "Last Active" is?

This is not a bad idea, if this were implemented I think it would be good if you could set your status offline if you didn't want people bothering you.

I like it, but we would know when the Ninjas are on. That would ruin their Ninja Stealth.

Like others have suggested, an option to toggle this off would be implemented.

I'd like this to happen, but Achronos is old fashioned and doesn't want B.net to turn into a "social networking site".

I know, I don't see how a few simple additions cause that either.

I think some newly made icons would be better for online and offline but I think they are simple, yet great ideas. It could be a little confusing with time zones though; it may look like someone was up very late but they were actually just on in the morning for example.

Why hello there.

I really like this.

  • 06.24.2012 3:52 AM PDT

Good idea. Hopefully with New Hawtness soon, profiles will be redone, so this could be within that.

Key

Why does it matter when someone is online without an instant messaging system? And how would an online/offline feature be used without a friends list? I don't want random people "following" me to see when I log on. That's creepy as hell.

e: Also, activity can be measured just by logging in. Does that exact time change every minute as they're online do as to not be inaccurate? If so, that'd be kind of silly.

Nope. This is nowhere near an original idea, unfortunately. It's been suggested plenty of times.

Nope. Quite the opposite. It's always been a social networking site.

Yeah, this would be useful. I expect we will get something like this in the site update.

  • 06.24.2012 4:45 AM PDT

This is actually a really cool idea. I'd like to see this implemented.

  • 06.24.2012 6:53 AM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

I already use Steam to find out when my internet friends are online, so this wouldn't benefit me much, but I will say it isn't a bad idea.

For Carnage Apply Within

They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! — they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace

You can already find the "Last Active" property (as well as "First Active") of a user through the mobile app, but I can't tell you how to do it.

Also, from the image, I would hope the date would be displayed as a local time. Anything else is pretty useless.

As long as I can always "appear offline" to everyone, I'm fine with it.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Apparently I'm just missing something when it comes to this idea, whenever it springs up. I've never seen a purpose to why you would need to see who's online on a forum. Even on forums that already have an existing list of most recent users or actually support a on/offline status.

Is it because you want to see when you're friends or on? Take it off site.

Is it because you get some indication as to how quickly a person you are in a discussion with will reply to your post? Just have some patience.

I'm not against this and I don't care if it's added (as long as I can opt to keep my status hidden), I just don't see a true purpose that can't simply be handled better elsewhere or just learning patience.

Does that exact time change every minute as they're online do as to not be inaccurate? If so, that'd be kind of silly.

In the Halo 2 era, this is exactly how the feature operated. It displayed your last active time down to the minute in the PST/PDT time zone.

Stosh once told me that an idea like this was in place, but it never came to light. That's why the archive image is next to "Member Since -date-."

Bye.

I prefer the Xbox live system, "Last online 5 minutes ago". It's simple and efficient.
