Unfamiliar territory has become familiar.

Hey is earth in the firing range of the halos? This is being asked
what if the artifact in africa is nuthing more but the activation unit of a halo a failsafe protocol as a just in case if earth is taken over by the flood as a way to cleanse the earth of sentiment life?

Yes the Earth is well in range of the Halo system. Many have settled on the fact (given Gravemind/ 343GS/ Mercy's statements) that the Ark is the activation site for all the Halo's once they are on standbye.

All sentient life, including Earth, would be wiped out.

Ok, spelling is a virtue, it makes you look smart. And it isnt sentiment life, its Sentient life.

But the Alpha Halo installation was destroyed, leaving a gap open in the coverage area. It's possible that Earth could be in that gap.

True, but given the importance of Earth (it does contain the Ark afterall) I think they would place it within an overlapping area of firing zones to ensure the protocol could be enforced even if all but one ring was destroyed.

Though I could be wrong and you may have just guessed a huge spoiler Keyes!

True enough about the possibility of a "hole" in the Forerunner Halo network... but somehow I think a race like the Forerunners would have some sort of redundancy.

If that ends up being the case (the Halos are fired, but Earth is spared), then I'm definately not taking credit for letting that cat out of the bag.

Firing the Halos is the redundancy plan. It is the final solution when all else fails to contain/destroy the Flood.

Anyways, this is Bungie we're talking about, anything can happen.

Earth was well within 25,000 Light Years of Alpha Halo.

there is a certain range

You say tomato; I say potato.

no! the halo close to earth has been destroyed. not to mention that the area of the galaxy earth is in might have purposely left out of the blast radius for a secret purpose.

ok there are 7 halos which wipe out all SENTIENT LIFE from the WHOLE galaxy. NOt jkust in a certain range.
when working properly, the halos will wipe out all sentient life. there have been a few complications this time around however.

I know you arent a fool. But im just saying that correct spelling and grammar in a post is an obligation, not a choice. It makes people have a good first impression. Posting with poor structure turns people away from the post, and gives people the thought that you arent that intelligent. Im not saying your arent intelligent, im just telling you the facts of how important using grammar and punctuation is.

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

well there's only one way for sure to find out if earth is in range. though i rather not try it.
