Subject: What's the difference between S-IIIs and S-IVS?

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Apparently Gamma Company became Spartan-IVs. Which means that most Spartan-IVs are probably S-IIIs.
But this also brings into question, what is the actual difference between a S-III and S-IV? I know S-IVs are volunteers but all surviving S-IIIs have been integrated into the S-IV programs.
Could S-IVs undergo some extra augmentations that S-IIIs didn't have?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

The S-IV program is a throwback to an all-volunteer program consisting of adults. No longer are children used to create super soldiers. The program was based in the far reaches of the solar system where the UNSC Infinity was being built and tested.

Remaining S-I through III's were given an option to join the program, but were not required to.
