I would recommend and encourage calm and rational thoughts and statements.

The author of the novel is aware of the issue, but they are simply one link in the chain. When it comes to what makes a book on a store shelf, the author is an important and vital component, but many of the decisions and aspects of the work are not their doing nor are they within the power of the author.

I get the impression that the author has also been on [url=http://halo.bungie.org/news.html?item=15942]HBO[/ url], and is involved in the matter. He appears to be calm, rational and looking to resolve the issue.

Screaming for blood on these or any other Internet site is not constructive, nor will it get any positive results.

I would imagine that the relevant parties are either in contact or are in the process of making contact. We should let them do what they do best.

Too add on to that, most authors don't have much to do with the title cover. They are allowed to give the idea, but the cover art is generally done completely by an artist just following simple guidelines, like "i want a guy with spiked hair holding a big gun." Of course, authors can be extremely specific, but there is no way to tell who exactly is at fault.

I don't think it's fair to say the artist copied the Battle Rifle. The BR does, after all, look exactly like a real French assault rifle.

The battle rifle is similar to that gun, but the BR has it's own distinct look. The gun on the cover of the book is an exact copy of the BR.

Man, that cover artist literally took the exact image of the BR from bungie in order to profit...

He is in deep doo-doo.

How many Christians must you slap until one of them turns the other cheek?

"What came first? The stone-tool or the shadow-puppet?"

Think about it, "God" is an atheist.

I'm just glad nobody has suggested that maybe its a clue about Halo 3.

:)

If so, we'd be on the 10th page of theories by now.

Bungie doesn't see gamers any more. They see walking credit cards.

Whoa. Bungie Lawyers! Be on the guard!

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

I can understand making rational and calm thoughts, but how in the hell do you do that in the first place? How does someone go about taking copyrighted material and w/out permission use it? My only insight is that they were not thinking...and this does not relate to whether the author/aritist did it. It is just a question.

While it does seem apparent what was done with what media, it is up to the owner of that Intellectual Property to decide what they think of the situation and to what extent they are willing to pursue it.

At that point, the person who is suspected of improperly using the IP will speak to the IP owner as to their actions, their motivations, their thoughts, and that may or may not influence the events that follow.

Quite honestly, it's really Bungie's game now (some pun) and the next move is theirs. Their decision to make a move or not, to do it publicly or not, that is completely up to them.

As to the other discussions both here and elsewhere, IMO it is now approaching the level of gossip and rumor-mongering. It was great that a sharp-eyed fan spotted and noted the issue, but now we fans can only make the situation uglier and less professional by getting involved.

I'd prefer to allow the people who normally take care of these things do what they do so well. On the other hand, if for example, this were a creation of a private individual that had allegedly been misappropriated, (like someone claiming the work of Blackstar as their own) I would be far more vocal, since I doubt that he has a huge legal department to speak on his behalf.

Thanks for the explanation Recon...and I agree now that I see what you mean.
