Subject: Bungie.net - Why can't it be one of the most popular websites?

Hey, I'm Dark_Farlane. What's up?
I'm a Brony and a big Whovian and is in Beatlemania.
BUNGIE 7/7 FOREVER

Honestly, I can't believe what a amazing community it is. A amazing forum it is, too. I tried to go to another forum, but it wasn't as active or helpful like Bungie.net.

It's really active compared to any other forum I've been on. Bnet is really easy to navigate and use, and the community is awesome.

<3 this site.

I ♥ Bungie!

I thought it was one of the most popular websites.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Its a nice medium sized forum

I like it that way

Who the hell do you think I am?

I don't know how other internet communities perceive us, but these are the best forums I've ever used, that's for sure.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Bungie forums should expand, and become a gaming forum for any and all video games, instead of only Bungie games. It could be the biggest gaming forum of all time. Actually, this might be a terrible idea, but I'm far too tired to think twice about it.

One of the few places that I feel comfortable posting at. Usually, when I join a forum, I rarely revisit that place.

Seems like an odd question to ask given the current status Bungie is in at present.

I disagree.

If you want to compare it to other forums, the most poignant thing you'll find is that they have quite a lot of tools and features available for users to make use of that we do not. Not only that, but these are things that you would really expect any relatively new or modern forum system to have nowadays, at least from the user's perspective (maybe that's the reason we see so many people wanting things like notifications).

So to say that it's "easy to [...] use" right after saying you've compared it to other forums you've used makes it sound like you haven't used many other forums.

Bnet isn't overly complicated with things like custom colors, fonts, etc, and has easy to use navigation right at the top. Comparing here to sites like Bethesda, Battlelog, CoD, or Xbox, this site has less features, yes. However, lack of those tools allow people to jump right into a forum and converse without going "what the hell do I use this junk for?"

I could see additional tools on bnet only even remotely mattering to people who spend a ton of time here, and even to some of those [like myself] they wouldn't mean much.

I'm good.

EDIT: Oh, of course, daz had to come in and rant about how inadequate the forum is feature-wise. What (likely superfluous) features might you be referring to?

Probably because it's too narrowly-focused. It's almost all about Bungie and their games, with the Flood being a bit of an exception. If it covered more than just that topic - which is really narrow compared to a lot of other websites - then it might stand a chance.

Complaining that it isn't feature-rich compared to other forums then arriving at a conclusion about how user-friendly it is makes it sound like you don't know the difference between those two things. Easy to use is a pretty relative thing, and it may or may not include more bells and whistles for any given user.

I think we could use some more features, though, sure.

Yeah that's not even like a feature, that's a necessity. It's still a wonder to me how the web team managed to design a message center... without an outbox.

Yeah that's superfluous. I dunno about all that jive. I'd totally go for a thank button though. More e-peen yardsticks, except we can say we were helpful in the process.

Well, that's not the argument I was making.

I said that the forum software other sites use gives users more tools - tools which subsequently make their site(s) easy to use.

You keep avoiding examples. The only things I've heard you suggest are like buttons, for which I wrote a mediocre script -- perhaps you should write one yourself, make it better, the way you want it to be -- and remedial things like adding the rel=norefferer attrib to site hyperlinks.

The Flood used to be powerful, but then there were stricter rules, and just about everything we do gets us banned now.

I had assumed that was the argument you meant to make, but you really didn't make it. All you really said was that other forums have more tools to use, and that some of them are expected.

I wouldn't think it's that popular, a lot of my friends have never heard of it. In the gaming world, I would consider this site popular since after all, it is Bungie. I find it a lot easier to use and I'm pretty fine with the way the site is made. When I go on Turn 10's site or 343's, I'm so confused and I could never understand how to post, but on the other hand, I guess that is partly due to not leaving this site very much to go on other forums.

I don't know if its just me but the forums seem pretty slow right now. I hope something new will happen soon to help it get back to its former glory.

I like Bnet for its simplicity as well as the ease of navigation. I think that expansion would be nice and to get a few new features so that the site still has a good balance of both old and new would be good for the community.

Yeah. I think it's nice because you really do start recognizing different people. We all start to know each other after a while. At least the regulars do.
