I have a group that gives promotions based on the amount of posts that a user makes. Right now there are some dedicated members that have set up a sight and are hand counting each post all 171 members make. It would make things tramendously easier if there was a simple post count for group forums.

Maybe you should think of a different way to give promotions. The people who post randomly and without reason probably shouldn't be the ones with the fancy roles in the group.

In any case, the reason is (probably) the same as that on the main forums; People would post to get more posts. Not contributing to the forums in any way, other than making it look more active. I don't see this being implemented in the future.

In other words, the reason is the same as why the post counter was originally taken out.

The good news is, it would promote activity.

The bad news is, it would promote the wrong type of activity.

Hereabouts many of us put a high value on quality instead of quality. We realize that a man with ten good well thought out posts outweighs someone who posted 10 pages of junk. Probably because we see the latter on an almost daily basis.

I would really like to see a search engine, is all. I would like a poster counter too, people already spam, I can't see it being worse.

There will never be a post counter of any kind here.

There will eventually be an integrated search for the site, but there is no ETA for that.

Uh oh! It's the end of the world, Achronos made a spelling error!!!
But to be on topic that will promote bad posts and chaos!

Send me a group invite, and I shall return a harsh reply. Do not invite me to groups. I do not accept. Don't believe me? Look at the list of groups I'm in right now. Consider this your warning.

Interesting. We value quality more than itself. Is that even possible?

Now to give you an idea, if there had been a post counter, this idotic post of mine would be counted. A counter would just bring in high volume, low content posts and threads, and it would be the downfall of these forums.

of course it will be very easy to rule out spammers and people who make pointless posts. There are only about 20 or so members that are active in our group. post count totals would be only 1 way of getting a promotion.

I disagree. It doesn't need to be public, and administrators can use it or ignore it as they see fit. Innovation shouldn't be stopped because it's not popular prior to launch with a relatively conserative testing group. No, rather innovation should run wild and bring us new features, letting the less fit die off with lack of general popularity, not a simple census. I'd love to see something new to help administrate my group, even if it is the simplest of features.

Besides, all major forum board software offers post counting features these days. It's not a unique idea, rather, it is a ubiquitous one. Therefore, we shouldn't hold back, and we should at least offer the feature for administrators to use it. You'll notice that other forums like PHPBB and IPB offer such features, and they haven't gone out of business and / or caused anarchy.

Yeah, I'm much more inclined to the "pick a name out of a hat" way. Everyone has a fair shot at winning. Yeah!

It can't be that hard to notice who's actually being the most active, can it?

If the person posted a lot then people would know of the person and would reccomend(mispelt?) that person so do that way instead have people vote!

I'm not that active, but never dead.

...your group can be very easily taken down. I suggest you change the way you give promotions.

You guys take "Promotion" the wrong way. I happen to be a member, and one of the 4 council members, along with holy rhapsody, in the group. There are lots of security roles in our group, and we don't plan on anyone else being promoted to council members. We have one admin, and it will always stay that way. The council members are nothing more than Bungie.net moderators who have permission of posting news on thw site. Promotions on our site are kinda like toilet paper, paper towels, and towels. Council members, and the admin are all towels, but the admins is velvety. New joiners start out as toilet paper, and cannot get any higher than paper towels. If that sound retarded, I am sorry. oh you think this is bad? I guess its better if your in popular fusion and you get promoted just for putting their signature in your sig. well, being so perfect, I am guessing they have a format similar to ours, The promotion is just a new name by your avatar, nothing to be too excited about.

I remember Recon Number 54 saying that back in December 2004.
