With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

My college has this neat little thing called the FYP, or First Year Program. Basically, it's a selection of classes that you can choose from for one of your first-year courses. There are all sorts of fun little things to choose from... But, nerd that I am, I chose the Sci-Fi course, named "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

What we do is this: Sit in class, talk about controversial issues such as reality (what it is), what it means to be human, the existance of fate vs. free will, and get assigned to read really good sci-fi short stories and novels. As a plus, we're even assigned awesome movies to watch (including 12 Monkeys and The Matrix). Sure, they make us write stuff, too... but at least we're writing about fun stuff. Sci fi kicks ass, I tell you!

And last thursday, we had a guest speaker who talked about AI and how "smart" it is today (which isn't very). This man, however works for Epic Games... And considering I've heard him in the class next door to my Physics class every day that I have it, I think he's here for a while... I'll have to ask him some things about UC2, which he said is what he worked on last :-D. Funny guy, he is.

So, I now look forward to more short stories, and of course, the K-Dickian book entitled, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

So, you basically talk about philosophy? That's what it sounds like.

EDIT: Except for the part about the Epic guy talking about AI.

That sounds cool. I'll have to see if ASU has anything like that.

The sad thing is, I seem to be the only person who actually enjoys the class for what it is...

Everyone whines... "Why do we have to read this?" "I don't want to write this." "This is stupid." "Keaneu Reeves is a horrible actor" (true, but I still don't care), "I don't get it."

<shakes head> Poor saps....

Huh. Sounds like an interesting class, even if it is rather useless. I like to refer to those weird, useless classes as "underwater basketweaving" classes. Anyway, my first year is pretty much planned out for me since I'm an engineering major(17 hours I think). Are you taking any other cool/interesting classes?

Japanese is very fun... Physics is fun, but unbelievably hard. Forget what they teach you in high-school... its all a bunch of crap. Calculus sucks (I'm not a math-alone person... I only enjoy math when put to science... not by itself).

And this sci-fi class isn't useless at all... as long as your willing to go deep into things, which many people around here frown upon. Ah well... I was one who developed theories for Halo, so I don't mind the deepness at all.

Sounds like an excellent class. As a sci-fi fan, I am confident that you will truely enjoy Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. I just finished reading it in my leisure time. It is a very good sci-fi story and an easy read. I'm sure you are already aware, but on the chance you aren't, the 1982 movie Blade Runner staring Harrison Ford is based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and is also a very good piece of science fiction.

Also, seeing as you have been a member of the bungie.net forums for longer than I have, I'm sure you know what Marathon is. If not, then you need to play it, since it has the best sci-fi story of any video game I have ever played. However, as a loyal follower of the Bungie Army, I am honor bound to mention Marathon everywhere and anywhere possible.

Actually, I love science fiction. Anyway, calculus and chemistry are hard enough for me, but I'm really having trouble learning a computing program. I think that next semester I start to get physics and other harder classes.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

Damn that sounds like an awsome class! And Bwahahahahahaha Shai, I'm already doing pre-Calc and I'm only a Sophmore in high school. Haha, I love advanced math!
Philosphy is fun.

My college has this neat little thing called the FYP, or First Year Program. Basically, it's a selection of classes that you can choose from for one of your first-year courses.

you must not be paying your own tuition. courses like that make me ask myself "WTF am i doing here?" and "am i actually paying money to be in this class?" classes like that are well and good when you don't have to worry about footing the bill, or when you choose to take them. but when you're shelling out $100+ a credit hour and you're made to take these pointless courses, you tend to be more critical. and there's going to be a whole lot more that you'll be made to take.

All Freshman have to take an FYP.... and on a less-than-ironic note, I don't have to pay tuition.... If I had to, there'd be know way I'd be able to afford going here....
