Why is it that the Monitor Speaks English, and does this support the fact that humans might be forerunners, and thus programminging the monitor the language they spoke, or is it Bungies ways of dealing with lingustics by having everyone speak english, because you will alos notice the arbiter speaks english at the end of Halo 2, whjere he asks the monitor where the Arc is, but if you think about, he is highly trained commander before he became the arbiter, so would have he been taught the english language to understand human tactics if encountered?

discuss..?

Are you assuming that all Humans speak (and have spoken) English? That's a very naive thing to say that could get you injured in other countries..

English is a very new language, by any standards.

And I think the Covenant all learn English, since they happen to be fighting an enemy who speaks it.. Some soldiers in Iraq learn Arabic.. Same situation, in my opinion.

he refers to the chief as a reclaimer so he must have encountered the humans before.

and this may just be my mind playing tricks on me because i dont quite remember but dosent the monitor also mention that the master cheifs armour is only a mark 4 or 5 or what ever it is (on the library level)

do you think the sound team at Bungie will take time to convert thousans of sound lines into alien language? the game is already good even if the covies dont talk their home language. if Bungie puts convenant language into the cutscenes of Halo3 and puts the subtitles in... we wont know the exact meaning of their though because we cant feel em by the intonation they use... maybe.
look at the Lord of the ring scenes when they talk elfic... its very good!
so i think both way "alien/english only" would do fine. that only if Bungie have enough time to make a complete perfect game, wich i dont think they will have.

i know my explanations sounds really weird but i hope you dont see any inconvenient.

Im not citing the actual book, but i beleive in the book it talks about how the world is actually united, and if this was true, and military officials spoke in english, it would make sense that english is the common language in earth

I agree with Wuyie, you will also notice after the level "The Library" the monitor says to the Chief" When you asked me before if it were my choice, would i do it", assumingthat another being, having resembelance of a human have activated the halo before.

Maybe one reason for changing the languages, was changing the roles of the elites from enemey to alliance, to gain the players trust that elites and humans could get along. As at the end of halo 2, notice when S. johnson tells the arbiter to get in a banshee, and he listens.

As for the language, don't all UNSC personel have a neural implant? The language translation thing may be updated there. And the Covenent have been studing the humans before they made contact. I remember that in the Fall of Reach, they hear the Covenent say that "Your destruction is the will of the gods." Then Master Chief asks if it was broadcasted in their language, but it was actually in [insert human language here].
