Marathon Infinity dealt with a time hoppin alternate reality manipulatin story...the said Marathon wasnt a PRE-quel...they didnt say anything else...when u r messin with time and realities -blam!- can get....sketchy...there are too many parallels btwn the games..at the least u can use one to infer about the other

It still might not be related at all
In quantum physics effect can happen before the cause.
Meang the oracle may have just learned it by oitself traveling through time or maybe the oracle hacked in to the POA's systems and found it out im sure it could learn quikly since its an AI.
And just cuz marathon was made by the same company doesnt mean it was related.
But in ohter news everything is named after swords cortana may actually be Curtana the legendary sword held be Edward the Confessor in the 1100's and Durandel is also one of the those kindsa things but I havent heard much about that actual sword

Dawn of the Dead video Here
6 Minutes of Hell video here

The covenant are extremely advanced, and our first incounter with them ever, was a message from one of their ships, in english, reading "Your destruction is the will of our God's, and we are their instruments". They knew our language long before we knew theirs. Plus, they did speak their own language in halo:CE, but Master Chiefs new suit has advanced translation software. The monitors all speak english, which could be evidence that we are the desendants of Forerunner, or it could just mean they have a wealth of knowledge and are fluent in many languages. Those, or Bungie just wished to simplify things and have it all in english.

Frome Gravemind - Halo 2
There is much talk, and I have listened, through rock and metal and time. Now I shall talk and you shall listen.

in the game too, the covenant are speaking english, it might just be because of it being an english game, but then again maybe he just knows all languages

IN case some one already mentioned it, sorry, but we do know that the Covenant aliens speak different languages that need to be translated, like for example when the Chief is on Delta Halo and you pass by a hologram of Regret and its chanting in his language and Cortana translates it into English with a snap of her fingers. Also, when the monitor speaks to the Arbiter during the Heretic fight, they are all speaking english, but there would be no reason to be doing so, it was just used more as a way of simplifying the narrative. Who wants to be fighting and reading subtitles at the same time?

Why is it that the Monitor Speaks English, and does this support the fact that humans might be forerunners

Are you assuming that all Humans speak (and have spoken) English? That's a very naive thing to say that could get you injured in other countries..

English is a very new language, by any standards.

And I think the Covenant all learn English, since they happen to be fighting an enemy who speaks it.. Some soldiers in Iraq learn Arabic.. Same situation, in my opinion.

Quite true.

The Covenant learned the Human language before humans first encountered them. Also, the moniters were able to observe humans and covenant before actually meeting them. So as the head of a fleet, the Arbiter probably would have learned human. Moniters could have learned it from the various human transmissions throughout the game.

if u read books ud know chief has built in langiage translation software. how ever in the csae of the monitor its more likely that he himslef has software to comunicarte with all spicies.

The Jackals, Drones, and Hunters don't speak a language, we can understand, but all the other Covies understand them, so if he had a translator you would think it would work on them too.

Marines and other military personnel have chips in their headgear with translates rudimentary Covenant language. It's in The Flood,I think.

It is purely a coincidence so that the game player can understand the plot. It suck if 343 guilty spark was speakingin a foreign language, and all throughthe cutscenes, MC is like " ummm what IS he saying?"

also, beleive it or not, English wasn't the first language to be spoken in this world, Latin probebly, or perhaps some african language..Atlantien, plenty of languages older than english that could have been said..

Basically, i think the OP is looking at this too deep. (like many people on these forums lol)

i say get some -blam!-, get some pizza and a soda, and chill out for an evening =p

dude every1 speaks english, brutes, grunts, elites, prophets, everything i dunno why but somehow bungie is too lazy to record alien langs

Edit: And to brian above me, nah even johnson understood the brute and arbiter i highly doubt its just that the mc has a translator

lazy sure, not unless you realise how cheesy it would be and the fact you would have to read the stupid translated text across the bottom of the screen...

343 refers to all humans as "reclaimers"..this shows up in Halo 2 when Keyes is in position of the Index and is about to be forced to start Halo....also notice how the Brutes, Elites, Prophets do not or are not allowed to touch the Index...

The Prophet of Truth holds up the index in the beginning of the level Gravemind, during the Halo 2 campaign.
