Subject: Group Membership Issue

It seems as though this is the case in every group I've seen. When you look at the member list, you come to realise that only a small fraction of the total members actually post in the group forum. I've literally seen people join a group, contribute nothing at all, and then leave a month later. I just can't wrap my head around it, really. It looks like the majority of people who accept group invitations join, then never look at the group again.

There really has to be something done to counteract this, something to make private groups have a greater presence on Bungie.net. Am I the only one who sees this problem?

I recognize this problem as well, but there isn't much you can do about it. The honus lies on the individual to interact in the group, no outside force should have to act upon that in order to create complete group activity.

There is a lot you can do about it. Groups are found tucked away in a corner of your Bnet profile. You have to go there if you want to visit the groups. What if there were drop down menus at the top of the page for your private group forums? What if you received a notification if you've been inactive in a group for over a month/a couple of months? What if you received a notification of group news (set as priority news by the group admin) to keep up to date with activities?

It's not so much an effort to force users into participating in groups, but rather little things that would be useful; little things to nudge the user and say "don't forget about your groups!"

It'd be nice to know who is completely inactive. Perhaps, make a separate absentee list, so you can tell who has gone one month without checking the group, or something like that.

Say what you want, but it's a decent idea.

I hate when people take me too seriously on here :(

I'm a friend of spawn's and I loved that idea. I even posted in that thread I believe ;)

Edit: I didn't post in the thread but I loved that idea!

I think part of it as well comes from how interesting the group appears to be. If the group actually has enough members contribute to create active forums, then other members will be more tempted to involve themselves with their group. I think things such as group activities or gimmicks can also serve to increase activity. In any case, I think it's more of a user-resolvable problem than a Bungie-resolvable problem. If there are inactive members in the group, then the group can try something to gain activity.

The Quest for 52 is a group committed to helping players complete all of the weekly challenges in Halo: Reach. We are committed to providing a friendly environment and organized forum in which players can discuss strategies for completing the challenges, help others with the challenges, and above all have fun completing the challenges!

Activities, contests, and other interest catchers help to a point if the member count checks the forum. If you don't have enough people that go to the forum it's pointless though. With an addition to the site to just make the private groups easier to remind their members of activities (like the group news notification mentioned earlier) the group could handle the issue on their own. The staff could do the same thing themselves, but you're not going to send 70, 150, or 300 messages or more to the entire membership on your own.

Counteract groups becoming stale? Don't mass invite people and then expect them to post. You expect activity where it should be least expected. Smaller groups are my favorite, you feel select and activity remains constant. Larger groups get muddled with nonsense unless they are moderated proper.

We have that in my group as well. The thing is some people just want to look around but don't have much to say. They may just look for updates about what is going on in the group. In my group we have people who don't post at all but they do play halo with us on a regular basis. That's fine with me. I just don't like the idea of a rule that you have to post a certain amount to stay in a group though. I was apart of a group like once. It was a great group but I did not like that rule at all and I left.
