Dont forget the fact that all a team needs to do to destroy vehicles is sit back and spam DMRs. I guess we could even go one further and say that weak vehicles are the real problem. Whoever thought that concept was a good idea should be guillotined.Reach promised increased AI & vehicle numbers, but most of the time, vehicles occurred the most often. Vehicle health did not account for such high vehicle numbers. There weren't that many active vehicles at once in CE, which is why vehicle health worked in that game.
So yes, it was brain dead decision. Getting in a vehicle in Reach is digging one's own grave.
Tell that to anyone who actually knows how to use vehicles. So you can carefully maneuver a Wraith while being pressure spammed by dozens of plasma pistol overcharges? You can move a bunch of scenery items into precise positions with the Wraith during all that chaos without screwing it up?
I've done this on Legendary and made it out relatively intact. But I died multiple times from stupid -blam!- like being unable to get out of the vehicle when boarded by an Elite (not to mention getting him off, which I only have 5 seconds to do and I'll have to damage the Wraith in the process) or from the 10 second countdown while being pressured by constantly arriving enemy dropships.
2 hours devoted to setting up 1 elaborate blockade just to gain control over the battle and fight Ultra Elites (because otherwise, the troopers always die, Pelican comes in and wipes the map clean, rinse and repeat). I've assassinated an entire wave of Covies without distractions or any cheap -blam!- (Hologram, needle rifle). Just a little positioning.
