Alright, here goes. This has been on my mind for several days now and it's finally got to me. I've been noticing a trend lately, even after the eventful announcement of Halo 2 for Windows Vista there has been serious whining going on in this forum.
To begin, enter my first interaction with this community. As you can see from my join date, I've been here a while, I've seen members come and go, some amazing people (and not so amazing people). When I first came everyone was enthusiastic about Halo, we were all still reeling over the release of Halo 2, some of us were a bit bitter that the game hadn't come out for PC/Mac, but we understood for the most part that Bungie was simply "doing their thing", and we knew they'd eventually come through for us.
Many of the forum members were excited over Halo Custom Edition, as many new maps were still coming out, and the CE community was still vibrant. We all knew Halo PC had its share of faults, hell, we thought, what game doesn't...But we didn't complain, sure, every now and then we had a few good discussion threads over what Gearbox should put in a hypothetical "update". But for the most part we didn't complain; we were content enough with crappy net-code, and a game with amazing game-play that we just couldn't live without.
Many months later, some of the original members of the Maw who I first met were still there, and yet others had left too. Many new people came, were warmly greeted, and became a staple in our small community. Some of them complained a bit about Halo PC's problems, some people blamed Bungie, others Gearbox, even other blamed Microsoft. We asked: Where are our patches for Halo PC, why isn't the game being fixed?!. As our pleas mostly met deaf ears some grew angry. We were getting tired of Bungie. Had they abandoned their old friends?
But at this point, Halo 2 was already aging, it was still extremely popular, an endless source for the discussion of story theories or multiplayer strategies but we were still playing ol' Halo PC. Some members grew a little tiresome at this point. Not quite apprehensive, but definitely a little worried. No one had any news whatsoever on when Halo 2 was coming out for the computer. So we twiddled our collective thumbs and waited for any news at all...and waited...and waited.
Leading up to the announcement of Halo 2 Vista, people were well past angry. Flame-wars erupted in many threads "claiming Bungie abandoned us" and the lack of support for Halo PC was no assurance. Sure, it was already a problem that Gearbox had not updated Halo PC for ages, but it was made worse when people were more disturbed that there was no news about Halo 2 Vista.
Flash to the present. FINALLY! It's here. Halo 2 Vista. We Rejoice! But wait...what's this? People are angry? They say "it should've come out for XP"...."MS is being a profit BLAM!" Finally getting Halo 2 is not enough, it was too late perhaps, most of the community was already bitter, not getting Halo 2 the way some of us wanted pushed us over the edge, we blamed Bungie...and we still do.

Sound like a bad dream? I've honestly had enough of people whining and blaming Bungie for everything. Bungie has brought us our favourite game (or else you wouldn't be here) and all we can tell them is "you let us down". I just don't want to see any more of this attitude. It's downright childish and immature. I would never name names but if I hadn't seen a lot of this going on I wouldn't have made this thread.
Now I know what some of you are thinking. "Old jman has finally gone off his rocker, yep; he's fallen behind the times". Well I may be old-fashioned, (odd, I'm not that old...) but I know what I see and it's not in the true spirit of the community. I rarely see the enthusiasm anymore, the love for the game...
Bungie is bringing us Halo 2 Vista, we should all be happy. But instead all we have is a critique. It doesn't have to be this way.
