Subject: Anniversary map pack (Reach) comes free with Halo Anniversary?

Why did no-one tell me this. I know I'm going to win the prize for the dumbest comment of the week with this. But it doesn't mention it on the back of the box. I thought Halo Aniversary CE had it's own separate multiplayer. The only thing it mentions on my game is the grunt funeral skull and avatar code.

I'd have bought this game earlier if I had realised.

And if you look the back it has 2 pictures from Halo: Reach gameplay.

Not too mention it is Halo: CE Anniversary. Why wouldn't the Anniversary map pack come free with it?

I just thought they'd used the same multiplayer engine as Reach. I'm relatively new to online gaming, and I only got a 360 a few months ago. But because they were marketplace as a separate purchase, I dunno. I did wonder about it, but after reading the back of the box in the shop months ago. I thought it wasn't included.

It was a very nice surprise to find that inside the case today. ^_^

But I can't be the only person who didn't know. I may be the only person on this website who didn't but 343/Bungie should have put a sticker on the front or something to really spell it out.

*looks on back of box*

"Six classic multiplayer maps reimagined."

"Brand new Firefight mission."

Anyway if you looked into researching the game for a total of 5 or less minutes on the internet. You would have found out it comes with 7 maps which runs off of Halo Reach. In a way it does have its own separate multiplayer because. You can play the Anniversary Map Pack from the Halo: CEA disc.

I'm glad it came with stuff for Reach anyway. I'm trading CE in tomorrow. What a pile of -blam!-e! I've just died over 1000 times on the same save point (it feels like it anyway). Truth and Reconcilliation when you first board the ship, and endless waves of enemies come in including completely invisible elites with swords I can't pick up. I don't even remember this bit completing the original game on legendary. That's how inconsequential it was, now I'm just having a supposedly relaxing blast through on Heroic. WTF have they done to this game? Is it this bad all the way through? Unbalanced, like Reach. There are no decent weapons which can help like a shotgun or anything. or any cover. Ridiculous! I had a needler and sniper-rifle, the needler won't even lock-on and the sniper is useless in close-quarters with no cover. I'm not interested in playing on normal, because it will be so easy for 90% of the game I really can't be assed to bother to play.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that either Halo 3 or Halo: Reach was your first Halo game and have never played Halo: CE for the Original Xbox.

  • 07.02.2012 9:01 AM PDT

Halo the original, was the first one I played then 2, then less than 1 year ago 3, and then latest of all Reach. I've completed 1, 2 and 3 on Legendary alone. I never bothered doing Reach because I didn't fancy the level onboard the covenant ship with the waves and waves of ultras. I've done some levels on legendary.

I have never died more than twice at the same Heroic checkpoint ever in any Halo game except through carelessness. I cannot work this out at all. It doesn't seem possible to me with a needler and sniper anyway. I'm retrying the entire level hoping to find a shotgun somewere. But either way I am not impressed with the balancing of this campaign at all.

And as a side topic, when oh when are we going to get a "revert to save B4 last" option. There is nothing worse tha having to replay an entire level because of a badly timed auto-checkpoint.

The Halo: CEA campaign hasn't changed when it comes to weaponry and physics. The only thing that has changed is the graphics, so if you completed Halo: CE on legendary back on the Original Xbox then you should be able to complete it on the Xbox 360.

In any case the Bandana Skull, Grunt Funeral Skull and Cowbell skull help out a lot as well as the plasma rifle/pistol combo. Not to mention that if you can get through one of the spawning corridors and camp it helps out a lot due to the Grunt Funeral skull mixed with the Cowbell skulls insane explosions.

Should have brought a plasma pistol up to the ship instead of a needler... overcharge the sword elites and no-scope them with the sniper rifle. Grenades for the rest.

  • 07.02.2012 9:17 AM PDT

Part of it is a badly timed checkpoint, I'm facing the wrong way the other side of the room holding the useless needler, I need to switch to sniper, reload, and collect the invisibility power-up asap before all the soldiers I saved (useless pricks) die on me. until you damage each separate invisible the soldiers can't fight them. just 1 bullet from an AR and they fight the elites quite well. Trust me I worked all this out and found the corridoors. But when I go into the corridoors, sometimes elites spawn right on top of you giving you no chance.

It's probably just impossible from that checkpoint seeing as I honestly don't remember this being a sticking point on Legendary.

I'm coming back with a AR and hopefully shotgun if I can find one, and there will be hell to pay. Still an AR or something useful in that room would have been nice.

  • 07.02.2012 9:29 AM PDT

Yes, Anthony, that's the point of the game. Unlike Reach, not everything is handed to you on a silver platter. If its too hard, play on normal. Beating Reach and H3 was mindbogglingly easy on Legendary, ODST was refreshingly difficult, but not really too hard, H2 was a challenge, CE is where its at. You have to think about your next move and how you might take on the next room or area.

And I don't remember once even touching the needler on Legendary, except one desperate moment in AotCR. If there is no pistol or shotgun available, Plasma pistols are the next best thing.

What do you mean, "Reach is unbalanced?" I love Reach, its graphics, its somewhat seperate storyline, the Cr system, and the advanced armor customization.

  • 07.02.2012 11:02 AM PDT

I just tried it on normal, and not only did I not die even once, I saved all the marines with no issues. Too easy. But now I know what to do, just save more sniper ammo and take an AR up there. make sure you catch the healthpack in the area just before (after whupping the 2 hunters), so you're battle-ready. I agree the needler isn't usefull in this game. Perhaps it was Halo 2 where it became quite powerful.

Part of the issue the first time was neither the sniper-rifle or needler are any good for melee. I was kinda trapped with the wrong weapons. And a bad save which needed 20 sec of preparation (reloading, collect healthpack, switch weapons and get to the correct opening door) before I could respond to the massacre. I know I should prepare better but nothing up to that point had really been a challenge, I was just running and gunning.

By unbalanced I meant that 1 level I referred to earlier, which to me at least is so much harder than the rest of the game. Where you're locked in zero-g somewhere with wave after wave of elites and ultras coming in. That was my previous ever Halo low-point before today on Heroic. But when the 2nd wave of ultras came in I despaired and went back and got a better weapon. That was on heroic, I did it eventually, but that was the only sticking point even in the same class as this today. It puts me off even attempting Legendary. I've done 4 or 5 levels on legendary as challenges, but don't think I'll ever get past that one. So it kinda demotivates me to do the others too.

It's obvious Reach is your first Halo game. Lets take the maps in Reach. Pretty much every map has one team starting at a better location than the other team. In the other Halos the maps had both teams starting off on equal grounds. So you didn't have a team that started on the high ground and a team that started on the low ground. Yes the other Halos did have maps like that. But most of them were equal grounds.

Also; never post on Halo Waypoint. 343 will probably listen too you.

Why do people keep saying that Reach is my first Halo? My first games machine was a sinclair then a NES. I've completed pretty much every shooting game even 50% as significant or well known as Halo that ever existed post NES. Including completing over 20 Megaman games I can be pretty hardcore when I put my mind to it.

I played Halo to death, then Halo 2 even more. Then I waited a long time to buy a 360. But maybe because I've been playing a lot of Reach online and before that 3. It doesn't feel the same to me. Didn't the jackel-shields used to change colour and then disappear when shot or was that 2 as well? They don't at all in anniversary, it's almost like TILT skull is on.

But I'm playing through on normal now and I'd forgotton what a blast it is not even having to wait until your shields have recharged. Will maybe try again on Heroic another day.

Oops, I'm not used to the layout here. Noob alert (like anyone didn't already notice). lol

And thanks to Dark Hunter for recommending the plasma-pistol. It's never been my favourite weapon in any Halo, but I'd forgotten how much more lethal it is in Halo 1. The lock on is almost inescapable, whereas in Reach they just dodge it (I struggle to land it anyway). Once charged it's like a homing-grenade in Anniversary.

Those Hunters (my faves) still go down too easy and somehow they seem less alert (again it's probably after playing Halo3), I was hoping they'd fine-tune the gameplay too. Not just the graphics, I'd have double the health for all the hunters and put a little extra ammo in the areas where you face them. Have their guns changed too. I remember green-beam weapons which were far more lethal than the greem plasma-bomb launchers. I'd also make the overshield run out quicker, it's too comforting as is. Could you really not pick up plasma swords in Halo 1? I can't believe I don't remember that.

And finally I thought Halo 2 was easiest on legendary, then 1, then 3. I died an amazing number of times on the 2nd or 3rd level in Halo 3, the level where you have to wade through an entire army of Brutes in corridors. Other than that Halo 3 was easy on legendary too. I have done ODST on Heroic, but again there are 3 points in that game I don't think I can get past on legendary. That one is too hard for me I think. I'd be more likely to try and do Reach. Also I feel guilty shooting the engineers poor fellows.

Halo 2 was my fave overall. The sheer epicness of it all, and I loved the bosses. My all time favourite Halo level was the one where you kill the prophet at the end in the boss fight after leaving a ridiculous trail of dead elite guards and hunters. My 2nd fave level was the scorpion take-down also from Halo 2. I wish they'd release Halo 2 Anniversary too. I'd be on the pre-order straightaway. Halo 2 and Half-Life are my 2 fave games of all time. It would be a shame for that Halo to be the forgotten Halo, the one no-one plays anymore because of SD ugliness.
