I think there should be some way to control the AI to prevent them from doing stupid, stupid things. Any ideas?

Smile, would ya, while we've still got something to smile about.

Hell yeah!

  • 06.12.2006 5:41 PM PDT

I think vocal communication is the only way to do it. I wouldn't want our precious and surprisingly fun marine A.I to be hindered by people who are too paranoid to watch their own backs. Besides, we need the d-pad for other stuff, I'm sure.

I think basic commands like manning turrets, using vehicles, and telling them to follow you or hold position would make the marines more useful. Also telling them to move to a different area or lay down surpressing fire would be good too.

Believe

My gametag is not sparda34b, it was an error, gamertag is Sparda3b.

Up-pad = group up/follow me

Down-pad = move out

left-pad = take cover

right-pad= grenade selected area ( only can be done 4 times)

You should only be able to tell 5 of your men to follow you while AI if programed can but these 5 go everywere with you.

Ya I was thinking something like that, using the D-Pad, kinda like Brothers in Arms if you've ever played it.

On the D-pad:

Up: Advance.

Double-tap up: go to.

Down: hold.

double tap: retreat/return.

As for the rest, the AI should be smart enough to decide that the rocket guy goes in the passenger seat, and the dude with the SMG goes on the gun.

#1 on IGN's "things we don't want to see"

"Let Brothers in Arms handle squad AI. Let Halo do its own thing.
And, after much thought on the subject, we decided (well, I decided) that commanding your AI might also ruin the game as well. If Halo is about fast, spontaneous combat and warfare, then please don't include an AI system that gets in the way."

I pretty much have to agree.

And up/down d-pad to tell people to get in or out of a vehicle.

][=][Imperial Center][=][

well maybe a stop command, so they don't rush in and ruin the element of surprise which happens alot on the first earth mission, but they are good as cannon fodder. also a kill selected target command which would focus fire on the target your currently aiming at.

Personally, I feel that very specific commands, like "kill this target," are hallmarks of lazy AI scripting, especially in this next generation. (possible exception to Rainbow Six and other such games, but still...) If your allies can't figure out that they should shoot the Grunt priming a plasma grenade instead of the grunt with a plasma pistol that has its back turned, then that's too bad for them. The more general the commands, the better; even more prferaable if the game didn't need them at all.

You're kidding, right? The squad commands were that game's weakest link by far. Why can my squad only use grenades at predesignated spots? Why can't they just go to these spots by themselves?

And when one gets stuck with a grenade because you can't tell it to Fall Back/Cover Me or whatever, it'll really be a Toasty Spartan.

Sure, if by "Halo" you really mean "Ghost Recon" and by "3" you mean "Advanced Warfighter".

Well it would be good to command the marines to take cover behind something instead of being shot. I think it got annoying when the marines would just sit there and get owned by the enemy like in halo 2.

Guns are in other games. Levels are in other games. Multiplayer is in other games. Does this kill the game?

Exactly and the answer to that is HELL NO!!!!
