I know that has been discussed a lot but I want to see if anyone agrees. Most think that Gravemind is controlling Cortana in the "teaster" trailer that Bungie previewed at E3. Maybe Gravemind is. But have we ever actually thought of who or what gravemind is? I personally think Captain Keyes ( Jacob Keyes ) could be gravemind or a part of it. Back when the Pillar of Autumn's arrival at Halo on September 19th, 2552, the PoA was abandoned and Keyes was captured by the Covenant and imprisoned in the Covenant ship Truth and Reconciliation. He was later rescued by the Master Chief on September 20th and became the leader of the human resistance on the ring. About two days later he was captured and assimilated by the Flood and absorbed into a "Brain Form". Spartan John 117 was forced to kill Keyes in order to retrieve the Command Neural Interface stored within his brain, which contained codes critical to Cortana's planned destruction of Halo. Althought I think that what was Keyes's personality or awareness may have already been "absorbed" by the Brain Form by the time the Master Chief killed him. This is supported by Cortana finding no human life signs present in the "Keyes Flood Form" What do you guys think?

Another thing that hsa been said in the Trailer for Halo 3 some thought when Cortana was speaking and she flickers, indications of graveminds face could be seen. Perhaps it is Keyes face that is used to represent Gravemind since his characteristics or personality was absorbed.

Keyes had a hole in his head...then there was the huge explosion which ripped the ring apart. He would have to be some sort of invinclible pipe smoking Flood brain form to survive. And Gravemind strikes me as being older...alot older than Keyes. Think thousands of years older. I think Gravemind is possibly an infected Foreunner.

Keyes is long gone...get over it.

If you would of took the time to read it, I said Keyes was killed in flood form. But his personality and awareness were absorbed and that is why there was no life detected in the Keyes flood form. I thought perhaps Keyes is now Gravemind or at least part of him.

His personality, thoughts, and memory were all absorbed by a Flood Infection Form. Because he possessed so much tactical information and importance such as his knowledge of commanding a ship, he was transformed into a Brain Form instead of a Combat Form. But he was still infected by a plain old infection form. All of Keyes was destroyed with the Brain Form when Halo exploded.

This is an interesting idea, and one that i have exercised many times, but one thing doesn't work... The ring or Halo Installation 04, went KABLEWY. The "Brain Form", as you call it was a Gravemind, but not the same one you encounter in the later installment of Halo 2. The Gravemind on Halo Installation 05 is very advanced and matured in comparison with the form that is Captain Keyes. This is because the flood were released on Halo Installation 05 eons before the accidental release on Halo Installation 04. If you read the books, which I believe you have, you will remember that the parasite that invaded the soldier who eventually is captured and sent for testing, is degenerated because of incredible lengths of hibernation. If the flood on Installation 05 were unable to travel across the Galaxy even though they had a much greater collective intelligence, what hope would the degenerative flood infection forms on Installation 04 have of doing the same. Your hypothesis is simply impossible.

doesnt it say that the flood are as smart and have the memories of the people they take over, so theres a little possibility that the flood got the truth and reciliation back online and got away from halo in time to excape the explosion, that doesnt realy have anything to do with the gravemind but owell, just saying

LEGENDARY IS challenging for some ... but ... I AM NOT LEGENDARY ... I AM A MYTH!!!

Doubt it, Chief or us killed Keyes getting the... That one -blam!-ing chip thingy. And Gravemind was imprisioned in Delta Halo his whole life. And Keyes was killed at Alpha Halo. I know somebody mentioned this before but whatever. And Gravemind is a Flood if nobody mentioned... which again there had to be somebody to mention that. I guess Gravemind could be controlling Cortana... But probably just brief moments. Cortana is a strong and smart gurl, she could take care of herself.

There is no way that an intelligence of a minor "gravemind" could transmitted across the Halo network. You may say that it was shown that Gravemind can transmit over the network, but this is a flawed example. If Gravemind wanted to control the installation though use of the Forerunner mainframe, which you say he might also have control over, we would all have been dead before the Forerunner became extinct. Although Gravemind can use the teleportation network, he can't transport himself or any other flood because the Forerunners made it so no flood form could. That is why he needed to get the "In Amber Clad" so he could jump into High Charity. He wouldn't have needed the IAC had he had control of the teleportation grid.

Remember that Cortana is under the influence of all the data she absorbed from the Forerunner mainframe. It is a possibility that she is sending the messages of her own free will, and was only coaxed by Gravemind. At the end of Halo 2, after the credits, Gravemind wants to ask Cortana some questions. Maybe he asked the right questions and some part of her went into overdrive. I think she is under the influence of the Forerunners and has gone rampant.

I have no proof to back this up: I just feel like Cortana is NOT being controlled by the Gravemind. In trouble, yes, but not being controlled.
