Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency? - McCarthy

I used it pretty frequently in the beta. In the full game I only ever use it in a few Action Sack gametypes.

This is a slightly silly thread as will get from the references. But for those who don't I'm basically putting jetpacking as being as unacceptable as being a member of the communist party in 60's/70's america. Good luck with that.

But I really do hate jetpackers. Saying that I kill more of them than kill me. It's like they've got a siren on the back that goes off every time they want to die. They make so much noise. It's the ones that perch in high places the programmers didn't think to ban with the return to arena thing.

I jetpack on HemorRAGE to avoid spawnkilling by Wraith. Sometimes on Invasion Spire. Not much anywhere else.

  • 07.02.2012 3:36 PM PDT

Nope. Sprint only.

I was talking slayer and similar. Where you have vehicles, it's different I think

Nope. I'm a rock.

Oh, never then. Unless its one specific doubles map I can't remember now, or Boardwalk blue spawn. Why turn down free rockets? Both of these times I do it to get on a fair playing field with the enemy team who will do the same thing.

i use it rarely, but i do use it.

Nope. I have never used it. People who do use it on open maps (eg Boardwalk, Spire, Asylum etc) are just free kills.

Digging Foxholes by Profession
Accept No Substitutes

I use a jetpack in every situation I can, because I find it the most versatile of tools.

When you do not have a jetpack, your mobility is limited to the horizontal plane. Your vertical movement is limited by what you can jump, climb, run up, or fall from. It is limited and tactically inferiour.

When I have a jetpack, this third degree of movement becomes mine, and while it is not as unlimited as one's ability to run, it is more than anyone else has. My movement and pathing takes a tactical shift for the better - I can get anywhere faster and easier, and sometimes, I can get places nobody else can.

It serves as a defensive mechanism for avoiding danger. Moving simultaneously in three dimensions instead of two distances me from hazards like grenades, and makes me harder to hit with those who cannot track targets or account for range effectively.

It also serves well as a tactical tool - people don't tend to look up much, and most people seem to have an inherent inability to determine where fire is coming from - so when that fire is coming from a direction they are not accustomed to checking, they are dead, metaphorically or literally, before they can even return fire.

Your inability to master the jetpack, to account for other's skillful usage of it, and your cry to have this vehicle against which you have no counter removed from the game proves something. You are inferiour in your ability to plan and fight, to adapt and improvise. There are many above me, but I am above you, for my mastery of the art that is applied movement in the third dimension.

Quod erat demonstrandum, ita non opprimere mea manu.

Edit:
If it affects your opinion of me, the only places I play where jetpacks are an option are playlists like Invasion. I don't play as much as I used to, so I don't know exactly what playlists there are that permit them.

U Wot m8

Jetpacking is for homos. I even tell my friends they're -blam!- for jetpacking.

  • 07.02.2012 4:57 PM PDT

Yes that's him. I was hoping someone would get the phrasing of the title of this thread.

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party? It's not a McCarthy quote, but it's the essence of McCarthyism. Politics seems to be going back that way. I thought it would be funny to have a thread of jetpack apologetics. Only 1 guy stood up for himself, respect!

But I really do hate jetpacks, that is true. I hope Halo 4 hasn't got them. Presumably from a continuity point of view they were phased out by the UNSC after proving ineffectual at Reach which is why no-one ever saw them again?

Edit. On active-camo. Once you work out how to tell which is the real red dot. It's not so much a problem. I started out a camo and then realised people could see me well enough unless I crouch and its not worth that the way I play. Run and gun, that's always the most fun.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

What exactly is a jetpacker? I'm assuming that you are using the term for the people that only use that Armor Ability, so if that's the case, then I would say that I've never been a jetpacker.

That's why you don't like jetpackers? Because they're loud and are easy kills? How about the fact that they completely break most of the maps and force them to be played very passively?

Used to be a jetpacker, woke up to the fact it's for phaggots.

No. Jetpack is probably the worst addition to Reach and I hate it.

I used to Jetpack very rarely but never in competitive games, only as the gimmick it is.
