I have been playing +150 games of low level MLG and I'm still getting raped just as hard as when I started playing MLG. My biggest problems are the positioning in objective games and the lack of radar, I'm always getting "outsmarted"
Any tips or things I should think of when playing MLG would be appreciateted

Black Ops 2 I run two accounts warmup only at 1.97kdr...real is at 3.77. i'm in master division 4 league play. pm 4 clan inv...must have 2.5 kdr or better

Really each map has it's own tactics and tips. Explaining all of them would be really boring for me. One question I want to ask? Are you using a headset. That could help your issue about playing without radar.

I'm using headset 50% of the time but I can't hear footsteps through the headset

What types of tactics do you need?

Setups mostly, where I should be on the map when my teammates pushes etc

I haven't played MLG in mm in a while so some of this could be outdated of I could be forgetting something. I'm not sure if you understand callouts so I'll just give you general basic info. Strategies always change depending on the situation in the game. It's also hard to coordinate strategy unless everyone is calling out and working together.

Basic narrows strategy:

>Don't have top mid
-Put sniper in one of the atticts and have 2 players push top mid from either side while one player lifts to clean up or flank behind the enemy.

>Got top mid
-Put one or two snipers on the top mid each looking down either flag or cannon. The other two players will push enemies back into the starting area (called lobby). If you don't have two snipers top mid you can have one camp their sniper and also watch flag and cannon and move to which side needs help.

Basic Pit stategy:

-Time weapons (when you pick them up) and this goes for every map. Also, when weapons are dropping like rockets or sniper wait a few seconds otherwise their timer will be all screwed and I forget exactly how it works, but you will basiacly have to time them after they are used and the last player with them dies (just don't pick them up till after 2-3 seconds of falling).

>Start
Sevearl different starts work depending on how you guys help each other best. Here are a few you can try or decide upon.
2 players rush rockets, 1 custom, 1 snipe
1 player rushes rockets, 1 custom, 1 snipe, 1 longhall or 1 training
2 players rush rockets, 1 custom, 1 training and immediately push their snipe

Now you either want to control the middle of the map or the enemy side. It's best to control the towers. If your team is good enough to get both that's fine, but only if the one on your side is covering the one on the other side. There is really no reason to stay on your side unless you are winning a close game. If that's the case then you want to have guys around green-training and a sniper sneaking sword or shotgun (mauler). If you know players are going longhall a lot maybe put the sniper in shotgun and if they are around green and training put that sniper in sword.

Also, if your trying to bait enemy players they jump on the rafters to gain a height advantage and you may surprise the enemy as they walk past you.

Also, keep aware of where you kill them. If you just killed them all in sword or S1 expect them to spawn near shotty or vice versa. When pushing their side it's good to have at least one guy covering green box both blocking the spawn and as a guy who can get angles to put shots on almost all areas of the map.

Nade any corner you think an enemy is behind. Not even kidding. Also, play with people you know and who can communicate well with.

. This is just the kind of info i was looking for setups-wise. thanks for taking your time writing such a long post

Watch gameplays of pros. They know exactly where to go and how to react to the other players. If you can, watch ones that also have the callout audio. Try to watch gameplays of pros that have a playstyle similar to your own, but nearly anyone will do. Here are a couple of different ones:

This is an aggressive main slayer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc0GRIq29_Q

This is more objective based, since you said you struggle with that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc0GRIq29_Q

This is another gameplay demonstrating strong slaying skills:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPfqxCFA8bI

Anyway, that should get you started. Just find a couple of players you like and check out their gameplays, and be sure to watch carefully as to what positions they take and how they work with teammates. Just be sure of who you're watching; main slayers will play differently then support players, so it all depends on how you want to play. If you need more info, let me know.

Best of luck to you!

I have actually been watching lots of gameplays for entertainment purposes. maybe It's a good idea to rewatch them and pay more attention of what theyre doing. How did you adapt to the lack of radar director? Did it just come naturally or did you train it up? Best of luck to you too director

One word: Practice. The more experience you have playing, the less radar will matter, because you'll just be more used to what people will do when, common tricks, etc. Play MLG customs with people better than you, it will really help. Also, try and watch players that have great awareness. That should help you out with the radar issues and you'll know when weapons are coming up and such. Basically, the more you put up with something like lack of radar, the more it's going to seem natural. Before long you won't even notice it.

Also, as someone else already said, run with a friend whenever you get the chance; someone else that's guaranteed to call out will definitely help you. If your friends don't call out, find new friends and run with them.

I run Skirmish!!!

Watch mlg videos

search for all the halo 3 tournament videos here on MLG's youtube channel. I used to watch these all the time and still do every now and then. Nothing better than learning call outs, jumps, shortcuts and team work from the pro's.

the most recent season i watched was 2008 in san diego, meadowlands, orlando, toronto and las vegas..

Oh man, I've seen every single second from every season since H3's MLG started. Aside from being incredibly entertaining, you'll often learn a new jump or tactic you haven't noticed before.

yeah exactly, I learned so many shortcut jumps and tactics from watching them. (which actually got me into my jumping phase). So now i pretty much know almost all of the trick jumps for all the mlg maps thanks to these videos. You also can learn neat little strafe's as well for BR'ing players

That's nice. I have tried to follow your journey to the 50 from the point you almost had the same highest skill as me (44 in lone wolfs I think). It would be nice to hit you up.
But I have to warn you; I'm a foreigner with a stupid accent just so you're ok with that. Is it okay if I send you a FR? You don't have to accept it, I just want to see when you're online. I won't be home until tuesday just so you know

Yeah, send me a FR whenever you get the chance, I'll be sure to accept it. I'm down to run with anyone who's still playing H3. I had no idea that anyone paid attention to the whole process I went through for getting my 50.

You will get better with time hopefully, unless you are one of those people who don't learn anything and in that case you are screwed... Once you become good at MLG every other playlist becomes super easy...
