Subject: If Bungie never existed

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

Well if Bungie never existed, I'm sure that I wouldn't be interested in video games to the extent that I am now.

I would make PS3 my main gaming console.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I would be using the WII and the newest DS.

It would be very sad. I wouldn't know what to do with a Bungie-less world. :(

RIP Halo 2

My life would be very, very different.

I wouldn't have discovered Xbox without Halo. I originally bought the console because I saw friends playing Halo 3.

I suppose shooters would all be stuck on the PC.

I would rather waist my time on my X-box... The console that still exists only because of Halo.

I can honestly that the vast majority of my friendships, many of which will be life-long relationships, exist either directly or indirectly because of Halo.

I would not be who I am had Halo never come into existence.

I tend to not think about things that could've happened, it's completely and utterly pointless. But since it is the topic of the thread I'll do it, for you lol.

I would actually have never been interested in shooting games at all actually. It's the first shooter that caught my attention. I used to play every other game genre like RPGs, fighters, etc. I hate COD, BF, and the only other shooter I can play with some fun is Crysis.

And I'd never have owned a Xbox, I'd still own all my sony playstations though lol.

Swag punks, fuck off!

I probably wouldn't have made friends with the people I play xbox with, which are like family to me. I also think I wouldn't have liked video games these days.

Chicken go cluck cluck cow go moo

Never would have got an xbox, probably would have stopped gaming shortly after I totaled my PS2. I would also probably have a girlfriend right now.

Trolls = the most ignorant souls on the internet.

If bungie was never around, I'd still be a gamer. Halo was never really all that important to me. Sure I've made good friends because of it.. but, I would have either way, I just would have been on the racing games far more than Halo ones.

As it is now, I've left Halo behind me, and been on Forza much more.

I would never have bought an Xbox, and as a result I would be apart of the PC master race.

Suppose Alex Seropian and Jason Jones never got Bungie off the ground and it failed as a company because of financial issues, a big fight, or something along those lines. This would have meant that B.net wouldn't have existed and we would have never played any of the games Bungie has made because they wouldn't have existed either. Do you think this would have affected you or do you think your life would have stayed the same?

I go by a rule in life that "every event affects every consequence", so I believe many things in my life may have been very different. Perhaps I may have achieved better grades in school, or worse. I think a lot of things would be different.

  • 07.05.2012 4:21 PM PDT

meh...

console shooters would never have gotten as popular, xbox would have failed, no online console gaming. with xbox failing, playstation would go as well because there would be nothing to copy. ergo, the world of gaming would be boring.

So, everyone, if any of us acquire the ability to time travel, we must ensure that bungie is successful. and also stop bieber.

The name's Ian, Game Designer at Whisper Game Studios, very off-and-on Bungie.net visitor and avid Bungie fan overall. Message me if you wish.

My life would be absolutely on a 100% different path.

If Bungie hadn't existed, I have no clue what the hell I'd want to do with my life. When Halo 3 finally arrived and I played it on that calm midnight in September, I finally found my calling in life. I loved the idea of putting levels together and seeing how all of the internal gears turned that caused the game to function. I began venturing into programming and some digital art. I then began delving even more into level design with all sorts of engines and modding tools going back to the BF2 dev kit.

Had Bungie not existed, I'd still probably be sitting there listening to my mom telling me I need to be a nice Jewish Lawyer, make lots of money, have lots of children and live the traditional Jewish man's life.

Bungie pulled me out of that boring tradition by showing me that interactive stories are something that required a very thorough and creative development process. All different kinds of disciplines and backgrounds being combined to make something so unique and gorgeous.

Honestly, without Bungie, I wouldn't be what I am today.
