"But I do not think we're invincible"

Is "inb4" not considered spam now?

I know that it's impossible for the mods to catch every instance of spam, but I remember that saying the prohibition against "inb4" used to be pretty strict, and that people who used it used to be banned regularly. Did that change when the rules were simplified?

Also, I'm not complaining. As stupid as it is, I don't really think it necessarily constitutes spam. I'm just wondering if the interpretation of the rules has gotten less strict or if it's simply not a priority any more.

It bumps a crap thread to the top of the forum, no? That's pretty spammy to me. I always report the 'inb4' people.
*shrug*

For all you know, the moderators either didn't see those instances you see or warned the people instead of banning. Eh.

It is spam, but if it's just tacked on to the end of a non-spam post I imagine the moderators would let it go.

I know that in many cases it is spam, but I can think of instances where people can use it legitimately.

I don't really see the practical difference between "inb4____" and "I'm willing to bet someone will say '_____,'" other than one is much easier on the eyes. Yet, we consider the former spam while the latter is allowable. Seems silly to me.

"inb4" would be classified as not understandable English. Not to mention how often it's used to intentionally irritate people.

Yeah, but neither would initialisms like "IRL" or "IIRC."

But I think you do have a point about its ability to irritate people. I know I'm always bothered when I see it.

Checking out my profile I see?

It seems to me that half the threads made nowadays have the OP spouting out several inb4s for no foreseeable reason.

Indeed. It's worrisome, and it only supports my hypothesis of the gradual decline of post quality here.

OT:It's horribly annoying, people know it's spam but they do it anyway. 3day every last one of them. Another annoying thing is when people post simply "ITT:__________".

In the OP it can be used effectively to try and deter the somewhat inevitable, non-nonsensical/spamful posts that may ensue due to the topic that the OP is discussing. You can always just say that you'd rather not be swamped with these remarks, but I guess 'inb4' is just shorthand.

I did post it once, got banned for it, and since not done it again. I guess I've learnt a lesson.

Also I see how it can be very annoying when it bumps bad threads, and otherwise has no useful content/meaning.
