Subject: Banning of TopWargamer (Author of 4th of July)

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Here is a link to the thread in question.

I realize it is most unusual for one member to object to the abject banning of another, but I am most curious as to which moderator banned this user and for what reason. If, perchance, the moderator in question happens to see this thread and sees fit not to ban me as well for my impudence, could s/he please explain what led to the banning of a user who was merely a well-wisher of the harbingers of freedom?

While my opinion is, ultimately, of little consequence, it does seem to me as though many threads of far more questionable and malicious a nature are allowed to thrive or, at the worst, referred to another forum for reposting. If the moderator is feeling especially generous, s/he will move the thread for the OP. Yet in this case, as can be seen by all, no warning was issued nor was an explanation given for such punishment.

It is not as though this thread was written about some lewd and indecent behavior nor was there any link to a shock site nor, indeed, was there any action ill-befitting an upstanding and proud patriot. Where, I ask you, is the harm in allowing the Community to appreciate the freedoms earned by the blood of soldiers, both past and present? I tell you the truth: there is none.

I see now that I have rambled far too long on this one subject, although it seems an injustice, if things be as they appear. Of course, this user could have been banned for some other offense, and if that is the case, I would love to be set right. If I am banned, I only regret that I have but one account to give for my country.

(Despite my feigned eloquence, I really am concerned at this and would love an explanation. Also, I would love not to be banned for asking about this issue. I would have PMed a mod if one had been mentioned in the thread)

TL;DR: Why was TopWargamer banned for innocently wishing all a Happy 4th of July?

It does seem quite harsh, but possibly because he intentionally posted in the wrong forum.

Key

Because he openly and consciously broke the rules without caring about the consequences.

His message was valiant but his act was not.

I thought of that, but the mods usually just lock and tell the OP to repost in such-and-such a forum. If the topic were anything else, I might not mention it, but it seemed wrong, almost a slap in the face, to act as they did about Independence Day.

@Snipe: What rule did he break?

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

Why the hell wouldn't he have posted it in The Flood forum? Smart move.

Well, not the rules. But the guidelines for where to post what topic.

Something to do with people that don't like the US there I believe he said.

PM a moderator.
I understand my OP was rather lengthy and probably was skimmed at best, but in it I did explain that I was unsure about which moderator to PM. Any suggestions?

@Snipe (again): The thread seemed to be targeted towards the Bungie.net Community as a whole. It has been a while since I read the rules (well, 4 years ago when I joined), but this forum seems as apt as any.

PM them all.

Every. Single. One.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Bungie dislikes patriots.

Threads celebrating USA's most important holiday = bad.

Threads about urks beard or what spartenken had for lunch = ok

I do not wish to believe that, but when the Halo 4 guy gets off scott-free, I don't know what else to think. I am disappointed at best.

Been here for 7+ years. The moderation in this particular forum is spotty at best.

People who admit to knowingly breaking the rules, no matter how inconsequential the rule, no matter how often it is broken by far less worthwhile members without consequence, no matter how good the faith in which they broke the rule are always* dealt a harsh ban. Yes, it's -blam!- stupid, but such is life on b.net.

*NB: Not actually always. see: such is life on b.net.

Does Bungie get independence day off?
Probably, but the moderators are not Bungie employees.
