It is my view personally that while the humour of Bungie and Halo should be retained within the first 1/3 or so of Halo 3 ultimately Halo 3 should be a lot darker on par with when Master Chief first encounters the adaptive parasitic lifeform known as the Flood. I feel we should see some human casualties in Halo (Cortana's obviously going through trauma in Halo) perhaps the loss of Sarge or the Arbiter. I would love to know your opinion. Whether you want a dark Halo 3

2)Also are we going to have any urban Earth levels in Halo 3 as Mombasa has been destroyed, wrecked etc?

Halos humour was mainly from the marines and grunts
and from some of the easter eggs

Not literally you dolt! He means as in a darker plot.

I reckon it does, seriously, what kind of marine makes a joke when one of his brothers in arms has just taken a bucket load of plasma to the face and is watching his world being torn down around him?

the kind of marine that is scared s h i t l e s s ! ! ! the opposite of fear is happiness, so if you can try and laugh it can help. obviesly you hae never been in a scary enough situation that you rely on humour to try and prevent youself from crappin ya pants lol.

i like hlo the way it is, if they go darker we might end up with a doom 3 style game, and i dont fancy regretting goin round corners, i wanna be able to charge out with a grin on my face you know

I think Halo 2 didn't really have that one-man-against-an-army feeling that Halo CE did. I think Bungie need to take a look at the Halo CE plot, and figure how to get that feeling back. It was very ominous, especially in 343 Guilty Spark. That was freaky the first time i played it.

When I talk about Halo 3, my future favorite game, I don't want people saying 'Oh that funny shooter with all those marine guys'. I want them to say ' oh, that badass gore fest that has your heart pounding and your guts wrenching at all times'. I want something to happen to sarge and it shows a cut scene where MC gets super pissed and he yells profanity at the covenant. The camera pans out from a small scuff with a few covies, to show that master cheif is surrounded by a mass of blood thirsty plasma weilders. Master Chief is so enraged that he basically owns all the covenant in his line of sight, now thats a cool cut scene

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

Trigger's got a point. Maybe he is scared -blam!-less, but nobody jokes when their comrade-in-arms bites the dust...

Darker Halo game! Now! More shadows, more gore, more dirt, more swearing, deeper plot, less bright colors!

Damn, that sounded emo... >_>

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

as aconclusion to the series it needs to be serious. wasn't the trailer dark? it was certainly gritty, though tthat may be the dust and the detail on everything. OH THE DETAIL!!!!!!

I'll be on my own side.

I quote Narcogen of Rampancy.net fame here.

In Halo 1, you are (supposedly) the final SPARTAN escaping in an old spacecraft chased by a Covenant armada and crashland on a strange ring, which turns out to be a weapon of unimaginable power and a prison for an unimaginable terror, the Flood, which poses a dire threat not only to you but the entire galaxy. Your marine cohorts are decimated and you're forced to detonate the engines of your ship, killing the Covenant and the Flood and destroying the ancient artifact. To the best of your knowledge, when the game ends, you and Cortana are the sole survivors.

Add the Covenant civil war, the death of the Prophets, Tartarus' betrayal, the Heretics, the attack on Earth, etc.

How much more gritty can it get?

Darker!!! Like Star Wars episode III. The overthrow of the Jedi felt like it was really happening. If they take the humour out (not a lot) they could make it feel as though the covenant were actually splitting into two.

darker and more emotion, the marine should crack less jokes, maybe before a battle but when the sh-it hits the fan they should be more hardcore or broken down and drained of life, most people forget most marines have been to hell and back, seen friends, family and loved ones butchered at the hands of the covenant(another reason they shouldn't allie with elites) so show it

and give some the classic two thousand yard stare, this refers to the unfocused gaze of a soldier that has taken to much to handle as a result of a traumatic event, here's a pic

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

The marines in Halo 2 are horrible.

As their commanding officer's head explodes they say "Oh, take a seat!". I am in the middle of pulling Humanity back from the brink of extinction fighting tooth and nail and to hear that... is wrong.

More than half of the time, I execute all my marines to spare myself the sudden wrenching from epic struggle to romantic comedy. The marines need to show signs of shellshock, madness, anger, fear and hopelessness to make me want to help them rather than make me want to crush them slowly under my giant metal boot.

Gritty atmosphere needs to be implemented to add immersion - I don't care about the odd cool comment when we win a battle but I want to think I am on the brink.

Plumes of smoke, the stench of death, debris - not sunshine and wisecracks.

this thread shows the choices facing bungie.
do they go for ultra-realism and difficulty or try to keep it a light-hearted fun videogame?

That made me laugh.

I love the humor, but I too would love a darker game.
I say make it darker, and save the humor for appropriate moments.

Exactly. There needs to be a balance. I do love Bungie humour but there has to be some immersion.

I got his sarcasm...one person has to implement sarcasm and then you get a pile of terrorist chipmunks crashing your party, not fun at all..

When Bungie said darker, they were talking about the storyline, not character antics or easter eggs. I have a feeling that MC and Arbiter would die together and frankly, if Bungie continues excelling at being awesome, that sort of ending might make me umm cry. I wouldn't really mind either way. But seeing as this is the end of the trilogy, the dark way sounds like a great way to finish the fight. Don't you think?

Note about the ending and being a cry baby. If the ending is like that, and I do cry it's the first time I have with a video game. Unless you count Tetris

I certainly woudl like a darker more involving Halo 3 game. I'd prefer to play the last 1/3 of Halo 3 knowing the Arbiter, Sarge, Cortana are dead. It would give me something to think about as I reach the true purpose of the Forerunners.

  • 06.13.2006 8:09 AM PDT

][=][Imperial Center][=][

the game was never humourus to begin with, the only thing funny about it was the easter egg on the last level of halo1, it is a dark game, when has halo ever been not-dark? you also said you wanted human casualties well, play it on legendary and you will see plenty, and on the last level of halo1 master cheif wipes out everybody except for johnson himself and cortana, and the moniter, and possibly gravemind.
