It would be nice to have an option to turn it off or modify its reach in groups. In Body Politic it gets quite annoying having to put gaps in words that are on topic, in context and nessacery for the discusion being held.

If group admins don't like swearing they could turn it off full stop, or if its being abused group admins could simply hit the unleash ninjas button and solve the problem in one fell swoop.

Body Politic has a system for discussion for talking about -blam!- things. If there's a topic about ràpe, then you'd use something like "ràpe" every time you need to mention it. This can be found in a sticky at the top of the group.

I understand what you're saying though. It could be used properly (as in our case) but it could just mean more flaming and group ninjas would have more "unleashing" to do...

TEST: -blam!- <- I thought so.

I was thinking that the sort of people who would abuse it would be the sort that would be removed quickly anyway.

I know about the sticky but I think it would be nice just to be able to say things without faffing about writing our way around the -blam!- filter.

True. Still, if I was to be a Group Mod, I wouldn't want to have to come back to a Group with three threads of swearing. Think about groups where they don't need authentication to join. People would join in spite, make a load of flame threads and then be blacklisted.

I think the way it would be abused would out-weigh the advantages.

It's sad I know.

Thats why I suggested making it so that you can select certain words to be exempt in the same way bungie can add or remove certain words from a standard list provided by Microsoft to be censored.

Ah I see. Sorry, I overlooked that.

Maybe, maybe. I don't know how hard it would be to implement though...

I'm going to make a wild guess at how the forums work, and say that the swear words are taken out before they are sent to the forum in question (whether it be a public or private forum). Thus, making an option would be rather hard to impliment.

Then again, that was a complete guess. I have no idea how javascript works. I just assume that each forum wouldn't have their own little -blam!- filter for themselves.

Umm...yeah...

Anyways, this has been discussed thoroughly, and achronos said he could change it back to how it used to be, but at the moment isn't changing anything.

I think that the mods have enough crap to worry about without going through, blocking and editing all the -blam!-ing pottymouths who come around. And that's why the -blam-outer is there.

I was never suggesting it in the public forums at all. Just so it can be tweeked within groups by group admins to allow words to be used. eg. there is a thread on marrige between men and other men in Body Politic it would make life a little easyer if the filter were relaxed in this context. Its not like the main forums where that word would be used in a derogitory manner endlessly by idiots.
