Subject: Private groups should be connected to Bungie's next game

"You are who you dare"

You owe it to yourself to get out and be someone. Get to work!

-Leader of The Citadel

Look, to be honest, we have relatively little idea of what Destiny is or how it will work.

So realize that what I'm saying is mostly just for the sake of an interesting conversation.

Bungie's community, in the present Dark Ages, is dormant. It has lost much of the momentum it gained in Bungie's Halo era. Particularly the private group community.

What if there was a direct benefit between being a part of a group on this site and playing Bungie's new game. Now, I know many groups on this site aren't related to their games at all, but this would be a strictly optional feature.

Now, there are some rumors going around that Bungie's next title will be a massively multiplayer type game. Not in the traditional sense, but I'm guessing it will have the concept of an online community shaping the world it plays in.

What better way to bring people together and strengthen the community than by rewarding players that get involved in this site and the private group community?

I'm not even sure if this is applicable, but if the game supports things like factions or alliances, having a group feature that directly links us to the in game world would be brilliant.

Anyways Community, this post is really just me rambling. I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

EDIT: To clarify, if there is already a preset faction (or something remotely similar) system (pure speculation), each group could join one and identify itself as a subgroup within that faction.

I'm just throwing out ideas here.

Key

Well, if those factions are in fact factions (the symbols from the Bungie employees' shirts in the ViDoc), then DeeJ could make one private group for each and have the community pick which one they wanted to be in (not being allowed to leave the group once you've joined).

I don't know... I just woke up 3 minutes ago so the idea sounds good now but it might not later.

it sounds like you are talking about a clan/guild feature that would be link to bnet. correct?

i think its to early to say anything to this extent.

I'm not sure how this would work, but it sounds interesting.

I don't think there will be direct integration. It'll probably be more likely that people make groups here just to discuss what they're doing in-game (coordination).

I so wanted Chapters/Groups to be Clan HQs in Halo 2 never happened.

Yeah, the idea is far fetched.

But who knows? If each group would identify itself as a unique entity online, the possibilities could be awesome. Plus, it would really strengthen the number of Bungie's followers.

I can think of 3 or 4 groups that fit your description, but it isn't that bad and I don't see why that should influence your decision on this.

Yeah, who is we?

Anyways, I think this would be great to integrate into the game. Connecting this website directly to the game would help, in my opinion, build the community. The increase in population might require more ninjas, though.

Seems like a pretty cool idea depending on what exactly the next game is and how difficult it would be to implement.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Achronos has hinted at this a few times here in this forum. Nothing solid, but he has mentioned that we have this great, underutilized network of private groups here (the vast, vast majority of BNet visitors do not use private groups) and (I could be misremembering here, but I think he said) that integration into a game universe might be a good way to increase their usefulness.

I couldn't agree more -- it would be an exciting and intuitive way to integrate Bungie's next game universe across multiple platforms.

But in an online world, its ok to have some bad guys. It adds conflict, and if that conflict is regulated a bit, it is a positive feature and adds a new aspect to the game.

If this was in their new game, I'd actually look forward to it.

Bear in mind it doesn't mean anything in particular except that Achronos seemed, at one point, to think that using BNet private groups in Bungie's next title MIGHT be a good idea.

Just trying to put the brakes on this before any unfounded rumors get going :-)
