Let's play "Worst-Case Scenario: Halo 2"! List all the possible things that could go wrong with Halo 2 to ruin it for everyone.

* Microsoft waits until Q4 2007 to release Halo 2 Vista.
Microsoft and Bungie have a tendency to release their major products in November, so what if they decide to wait until the holiday season to release Halo 2?

* Bungie didn't optimize Halo 2's code so we have another system-whore like Halo 1.
We all know how horrible Halo PC's coding is;To run it decently you'll need a computer 4x better than the system requirements listed on the back of the box. What if history repeats itself with Halo 2?

* Halo 2 Vista doesn't have voice chat.
This is what I'm most worried about. If Halo 2 Vista doesn't have voice chat, that could ruin the experience. One of the great things about Halo 2 Xbox was the ease of communication, the fact that you could talk to all 15 of your teammates by pushing a button. What if we have to type our messages to our teammates like in Halo 1?

* Halo 2 does indeed support Live Anywhere.
We all know about Xbox Live's community;Mostly screaming kids, rank whores, homophobes, racists, and grievers. If Bungie lets us play against the Halo 2 Xboxers, then that could ruin the game like it did with the original Halo 2.

* Halo 2 Vista supports leaderboards.
Remember the Halo 2 cheating crisis of '05? The modding and standbying was getting so bad that Bungie actually had to get rid of the leaderboards.
If Halo 2 Vista has leaderboards, then that will bring over the nerds who get off to "pwnting" noobs with their "lee7 hax".I'm okay with ranks, but leaderboards will encourage cheating.

Okay, I have to go for now, but feel free to add your own.

They add peer to peer MP instead of dedicated servers. Which by all the looks they are doing.

Fools if they are, overconfidant fools.

Although I must agree with most of what you say, I strongly disagree with what you said about H2 PC using only voice microphones and disabling text chat. You didn't say that outright, but in the context. I don't mind if H2 has built-in VOIP support, but if I'm going to be pretty pissed off if the only way I can communicate with people is through voice. I'm not saying I don't like voice chat, but lots of PC players are going to be somewhat dismayed if they can't type on H2 PC.

The few, the proud, the leet.

Worst-Case Scenario: Halo 2 Editing Kit

Sandbox Editor: If there is a sandbox editor, then every single kid will make a poorly concieved box map. All servers or user-hosted games will run said pcbm and there will be a shortage of servers running decent and good maps.

Guerilla/Sapien Version Locked Point Oh: When GBX ported PC and eventually released the HEK with CE, they released locked version of Sapien and Guerilla. Kornman worked his heart out trying to unlock everything. It took him nearly two years, but he did it.

Incomplete Guerilla/Sapien versions: We might just be missing out on something, but recorded animations still cant be done. It's like a part of the code is gone. Because of this, custom single player is limited to very little. There cant be any sort of dropship use, etc.

Even worse documentation: Every single person who has read the HEK Tutorial knows exactly how bland, incomplete, and small it is. It shows exactly the bare minimum required to create a basic level. If H2V has a similar tutorial, it'll be at least six-nine months before a map comes out that utilizes a good portion of the features of H2.

Still no scripting support: Scripting wasn't even mentioned in HEK and it'd really suck if it weren't mentioned in H2V

No exporting/importing tools: 3ds Max and so forth have been the only means to create levels for CE. Every single moddeler depends on it because it's the only thing they know. If an exporting/importing tool isn't included, then we're -blam!-.

Open-Source tagging system: It's absolutely terrible when some kid takes your work and uses it for his own purposes without asking and/or not even crediting you. There needs to be some sort of encryption tool to keep your work your own and your beta builds private.

Getting maps from the server: It would absolutely suck if you have a private beta going on and some random person joins in since they downloaded the map from the server.

I can seriously see alll of the above happening. Maby a Bungie employee will see this thread and do something about it.

If Halo 2 Vista is missing all those features then I wont be surprised.

I don't think that Halo 2 should be VOIP only. It should have VOIP and text-chat, but we should have the option to turn text-chat off.

Amen! It would be great to be able to use both in the same game.

MAD Worst Case Scenarios:

* No Mac version. Oh, the humanity!

* No infinite grenade option in multiplayer. I loved it in H1, and I missed it terribly in H2 Xbox.

* No option to choose exactly which vehicles you want on a MP map. In H2 Xbox, you could only choose one type of heavy vehicle, and only one type of light vehicle. I want to be able to have every possible type, light, medium, and heavy in H2Mac/PC. In H1, you could have giant vehicle battles: 'Shee vs Chain 'Hog vs Rocket 'Hog vs Ghost vs Scorpion vs Shade. You could even have 4 of each vehicle per team. Ah, those were the days. Please, Bungie, bring that back.

* No H2PC CE. 'Nuff said.

Now, I am not saying that is what you are saying, bhut you make it sound as if every single kid is capable of not making good maps. That's not true.

Anyway, some worst case scenarios:

Netcode once again crappier than Valve's programming with Steam.

Anti-cheat is not vey good.

3ds max (S1000something) required to make maps.

No possibility to make full mods. (hey, you have chance to beat Valve's modding community here...)

No way to embed something that shows author info. Knowing how immature a lot of the community can be, some little idiot will probably steal something that will make an impact, release it, take credit, and then the real author will be regarded as someone who is unskilled and tries to take credit.

okay firstly Vista will be out before then my bets on Q4 06-Q2 07. Even if Halo 2 PC supports Live anywhere the cross platform servers only work with specifically designed 360 GAMES, Halo 2 is an xbox 1 game so no chance of cross platform, but expect things such as achievements if it does upport this system. On Live we're not all jerks just the few idiots ruin Live's user rep.
