I am...whimsical today.

First bit: We assume that they couldn't define the weapon to kill only Flood, maybe they couldn't?

Second bit: No one outside Bungie knows, many many theories, but no knowledge :(

If the Forerunner look similar to Master Chief (as in the armor), and one of them asked 343 GS That question, then thinking Master Chief was that one, he could be refering to that.

It sounds confusing, I know, but read it a bit and it will make sense.

The reason the rings destroy all sentient life is that the Flood is merely an infection. Just because there are Flood infection forms that the Chief can destroy doesn't mean the Flood doesn't begin it's life at a cellular level. Surely the Flood would survive in some way shape or form. However, since the infection requires hosts in order to reproduce and survive, killing the hosts also in turn, kills the Flood. At least that was the plan...

The rings dont aim they just kill all life so the flood has no food or any hosts to live on and eventually they will die, the flood arnt pure alive there kinda like undead creatures so the rings dont affect them

yea u guys remember that one scene where gravemind has the master cheif and the arbiter as well well when he says "I have defied gods and demons" what i think it means is that master cheif (humans) are descendents of the forerunner becuase thats why they built the "arc" on earth so the forerunner r gods so gravemind means he has defied humans.and the demons part is the covenent and when he means that he defied them he meant he let them live?idk thats my theory plz answer back

this is a reply to dragon ninjas comment if the rings destoyed the floods food and have no hosts to control and preserve their race well yea it stop them from killing people but remeber when 343 GS said that the flood infectious froms servived in this instalation for countles "MILLENIUM" so the flood would eventually in all that time they were there find a way off the ring.So eventually sentient beings would start to form again (chain of evolution) and the flood can then devoure them.

good point
thanks for pointing that out

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

first, many believe (this has been discussed on a tthread a few weeks ago) that the flood feed on the calcium in bones, so the halos may affect that.
second, chief's armour is adapted from elites which is adaptedf from forerunner hence the confusion

The Forrunner probably wanted to preserve the flood for future use.

My theory is that the flood is the weapon to wipe out all "other" sentient life. Then the flood eventually starve and die out and when all thats over the Forunners emerge from their Ark. But thats not gonna happen is it. The Covenant are opening the ark early...

the rings do not kill the parasite they are a means of controling them so that they dont take over the galixy. if the flood starved to deth then how would they be here?

if the forerunners made the rings to kill the floods food to kill the flood why didnt they just kill the flood instead of everything except the flood including themselves? ..and do we know postitively why 343 said last time you asked me that i said yes my answer has not changed and why he thought cheif knew everything about the rings like he was a forerunnner?

that my friend, is some hard evidence has helped me support the theory that the humans are the forernners

Mabey the flood is an experiment to gain immortality gone terribly wrong and they are being preserved so future generations can try to complete it.
