Subject: LOCK, LOCK IT, LOCK IT (AY!) LOCK, LOCK IT, LOCK IT (AY!)

Yep, we've found the solution. It's perfect. Other suggestions are irrelevant, as are burrito's late-night escapades.

I don't think that this would work very well. People would just use support from groups as well as alternate accounts in order to get the position.
The vote would be held exclusively within the Mythic Members group. We're the only collection of members qualified to make such judgements, and as the group is ruled with an iron fist, correct results in the election would be absolutely guaranteed.

No flaws.

Subject: What if moderator selection was democratic?

No. I think Bungie are capable enough of picking their own moderators.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

No, it would become a popularity contest and people wouldn't be chosen based on their ability to moderate.

  • 07.06.2012 2:50 AM PDT

I was thinking about this the other day.

Under the right conditions I think it could work.

This.

And what happens when we have people exploiting the poll like with the art challenge from a recent Mail Sack?

when ever i think of this i remember that vote for the next mod thread and everyone said sonic john.

i dont really think it would work because people are stupid. why would you put the power to give people mod to a bunch of 10 year old trolls?

Questions lead to learning, learning leads to kowledge, knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to peace.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

You mean you want the internetz to decide who carries out the internet law. I don't POSSIBLY see how that could go wrong.

Bungie's site.. Bungie's Rules.. Bungie's Moderators. People would only vote for the 'well known cool kid' anyway. The system would be flawd.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

I'll bet that only Mythics would be allowed to vote

As opposed to now, where it is a wonderful flawless system only picking people on the basis of their capability to be excellent moderators.

the current system IMO is better than a voting system (at least were members are the voters)

  • 07.06.2012 3:48 AM PDT

The selection would probably just be popular members, regardless of how their judgement is.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

Interesting idea but there would be no competition, I am 100% confident that I would be voted in as supreme leader of B.net.

I am pretty sure Bungie almost stalks users before they PM them asking them to be a Ninja. They look at posts, look at ban history, look at them in groups, see how often they login ect. Its much better then just voting in a poll. Maybe if Bungie set the poll up with selected members but to be honest who cares? Bungie will choose who they want. Always have, always will. The only members who'll vouch for you are the current Mods in HFCS.

I think thats how some of it works. It's just common sence.

Fun fact: Most Alien Abduction Stories involving any sort of probing are actually Bungie selecting their moderators.

Yeah I agree that the current voting system works well enough. This is all hypothetical, of course.

We should at least be able to nominate them.

Not that I've got any insight whatsoever as to what Bungie does, I think there's one more major component, reports.

I'm an admin myself at at forum (albiet a lot smaller scale than b.net). One way of measuring if users are potential moderators is by seeing how many and how accurate reports of breach of rules they file.

The idea is that by seeing what they file and how they file it, you can see what their idea of justice is like.

Edit: And to my point, reports is not something a (moderator voting) user can take in to consideration.

Bye.

Does anyone know any sites that use a democratic system for selecting moderators? I can't think of any.

from a quick google search i found there are sites that use this method as to how well it works i have no idea.

  • 07.06.2012 4:53 AM PDT

And yeah I agree. Everyone would vote for SonicJohn and I would explode.

EDIT: Whoops; I mean: "This Community is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. It's full of great people, but I feel like there are some flaws that can be dealt with. Choosing moderators is a very, VERY important decision, and I'm not sure that I'd fit the bill. I mean, I'd try my best, but I doubt I'd do well. Moderation is tough business, and I respect all of our Forum Ninjas with all of my heart. I'm friends with all of them and they're really cool dudes. I would also like to clarify that I since I am a Webcam MVP, I don't think that I could handle the additional fame that I would gain. Again, of course, if honored with the offer of the position, I'd likely accept, but only after much afterthought.

I love you all."

Did I do good?
