From what we have learned from the books and games, amongst other sources, we know of 2 forms of immunity to the flood infection form (
The Infection forms rewrite a victim's cellular structure and convert him into a combat form-an incubator for more Infection forms)

1) Sargent johnson: has a disease or condition, or he was iradiated, when he used a crate of covenent plasma grenades to hold off the covies, while he waited for pick up. In doing this the plasma grenades did something to him and that made him immune to the infection form flood

2) The Hunters: they are actually multiple organisms that exist within the armor, creating a bipedal hive-creature. It was confirmed by some source that the Hunters are immune to flood infection forms, as they are not one being, but many thousand.

Thus we know that there are at Least 2 forms of immunity to infection form flood, despite the chief refusing to tell ONI about Jonhson, it is possible that humans or other races could develop a injection, or other forms of mass immunity-making... ism

And Even if the Flood Consume Every other species, the Hunters shall survive to be the Last Living species in known existance (unknown what the flood do to the Engineers and Draini or w/e they are called)
So "If" the hunters can survive the combat and carrier forms of flood, then they shall be the dominant, the Only species left, and thus Rule the Galaxy....'s

I am...whimsical today.

Remember, even if they can survive being infected, they can't necessarily survive a Flood attack

Possibly, but Dr. Halsey said that the chance that ONI would be able to replicate his unique medical conditions are very small. They have a billion-to-one shot of replicating his conditions.

I think it's a possibility that the gas that is being harvested in some Forerunner sctructers could have been used as a "bug spray" of sorts by the Forerunner agains the Flood.

I'm not sure about it, but I can't see to find another reasonable explanation.
