Were all adults here (well most of us), if 11 year olds are using profanity on facebook and twitter then i think we should be able to. Not a big deal but in some of my recent post's the "a word" was not blocked by the filter, and i don't want to get banned for something the filter is supposed to catch.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

I think they should at least let us opt-out of the filter.

I feel as if that the filter exists for a very specific reason; to fulfill perfunctory, meaningless, ill-reasoned bureaucratic process, thereby exuding the illusion of order over chaos.

No, it's got to be there for a reason.

If it's optional I don't mind.

I think it would be cool if it was optional. Profanity serves a purpose on occasion, but too much and it gets annoying fast.

Key

Not really. While I'm not going to pull a Foamy and say that if you use profanity that much you need to get a better vocabulary, I will say that if the profanity filter affects you enough that it becomes an annoyance, you should probably talk to some sort of doctor about your phalangic turrets.

The current system is completely absurd. This is a community where it's totally acceptible to talk about 'adult films,' or 'a certain historical german fascist political party,' and yet you can't say the actual words. In fact, in most cases there's no prohibition on discussing the concepts behind the words, as long as you don't say the actual words themselves. How does that make sense to anyone? Just what does that accomplish? If words are simply used to denote concepts, and the concepts themselves are not prohibited, then what makes the words themselves so taboo? The words are nothing without the concepts they represent.

Not to mention, most of the people who come here already know the vast majority of the words that are filtered anyway, so all the filter really accomplishes is to annoy everyone and waste the mods time that could be better spent watching for actual concerns.

Wish I'd saved the wall-of-text I sent to Bobcast on this subject when he banned me for bypassing the filter about a week ago.

Canadian Nazism is a polite ideology, ok?
"Into the boxcar now... there you go. Oh, watch your head. Here, let me help you... Yep, showers are right through there. No problem at all."

Of course it should be. Or at least, the list of words that are filtered needs to be pruned vigourously. Why is s*xual a filtered word? It isn't profane. Same with p*rn, n@zi, g@y, r@pe, etc. These aren't profane words, and they aren't even subjects that we are banned from discussing, so why can't we use the words? It's a pointless inconvenience.

Cursing is completely unnecessary. There really is no point in it. Cursing is very unclassy.

Meh. I never post on the forums, rank means nothing, and there is no reason to be here in the first place.

They're just words. They have no power to harm or bother you beyond the power you give them. The very idea of 'cursing' is just an antiquated holdover from the days when people still believed that certain words could actually curse you (i.e., black magic). It's high time we as a society grow up and get over it.

Most of us aren't adults, I've seen the polls in The Flood. Even if we were, most adults don't find it necessary to swear regardless. We can get along fine without it.
