The short answer to that is "No."
The long answer to that is "-blam!- no."

Using profanity while speaking is one thing. Typing it out is another. What is the gain in allowing it?

groups should have the option to turn it off (i believe this used to be there), as well as video and picture embedding. the latter can be substituted with a script though.

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

We should keep the profanity filter, but I think the words that get filtered need to be changed. Same-sex related words should be unfiltered, for example.

I'm sure it does. Other than making Achilles feel better, what is gained?

What is the loss in allowing an Opt In/Out feature? At the very least; in groups?

I really don't see the need for it.

I really don't see the point. While in the rarest of cases the filter makes some posts hard to follow, they're not really the posts worth watching because they're usually berating someone for not doing something in the 'correct' way. But what is there to lose by getting rid of it? I think if you're asking that question then there really isn't anything to gain either.

Really, it isn't hard to find words you can use.

The current system is completely absurd. This is a community where it's totally acceptible to talk about 'adult films,' or 'a certain historical german fascist political party,' and yet you can't say the actual words. In fact, in most cases there's no prohibition on discussing the concepts behind the words, as long as you don't say the actual words themselves. How does that make sense to anyone? Just what does that accomplish? If words are simply used to denote concepts, and the concepts themselves are not prohibited, then what makes the words themselves so taboo? The words are nothing without the concepts they represent.

Not to mention, most of the people who come here already know the vast majority of the words that are filtered anyway, so all the filter really accomplishes is to annoy everyone and waste the mods time that could be better spent watching for actual concerns.

Wish I'd saved the wall-of-text I sent to Bobcast on this subject when he banned me for bypassing the filter about a week ago.

Ok I'm changed; I think the filter should be removed. Maybe keep it on completely unnecessary words like racist words? I dunno.

Why? So we can have a bunch of kids cursing so much it doesn't make sense?

For example, "You guys are so mother-blam!- stupid you -blam!- -blam!- -blam!- dick -blam!- piece of -blam!- ass mother-blam!- -blam!- licker. -blam!-!"

We don't need any of that. It's much funnier to see all those -blam!-s anyways.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Show me the boobies!

I won't have to waste my time studing the sentence with the filtered word for context clues in order to find out, or at least hypothesize, what the word is.

Seriously, Ric Adbur's post alone should be persuasive enough to allow profanity.

As long as it's not swearing for the sake of swearing, I'm totally fine with it. I would make it so that a person could still be banned for blatantly insulting someone, or making a six word sentence with the F Bomb. If it's used in conversation, I really don't have a problem with it. I swear like a sailor in RL.

I would like to invite you to the most active group there is, Black Water Ops. Boasting over 4000 members this is one of the fastest growing groups and proven to be one of the most active b.net groups. An amazing experience awaits you with weekly game nights, photo contests, and forging contests. This is one decision you won't regret. Welcome to the family!

I think it would be cool if it was optional. Profanity serves a purpose on occasion, but too much and it gets annoying fast.

My thoughts exactly.

I really don't think this would happen all that much. I think there is still a rule somewhere that would make a thread with that bannable.

People are offended by words like that. (Yes I know I censored what he said, but quoting those words is a bit ironic and hurtful to my argument) I know you see them every where on places that don't regulate, but people are still offended by these words. I know some may not care if other people care, but thankfully Bungie does.

The chance for offence is still there just as much as it would be without a thinly veiled safeguarded consisting of four letters, two hyphens, and a partridge in a pear tree. People are still going to be offended when they see "-blam- -blam- -blam- -blam- -blam- -blam-" because they know that the person is using some sort of profanity at them, and knowing is all it really takes.

The main problem with the profanity filter is that you can still decipher a word almost autonomically by seeing the syntax and context of the post which contains. This voids the primary function of it; meaning all it does is keep the site "aesthetically pleasing" which isn't only subjective, but doesn't matter after a user has been a member of the site for about a week.
