Using profanity while speaking is one thing. Typing it out is another. What is the gain in allowing it?

There is no gain in it, thus the winnng of the filter.

I honestly feel that blam! is often sufficient. Most often, it gets the point across without being too offensive. Anything more is truly not necessary on these forums.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

This is a family friendly site, why would you want to see such words, there is no point. I use them( in discretion), but there isn't any gain or loss or anything, just words that people find offensive; We don't want to offend people or hurt their feelings.

the only problem i have with mine is that it's unstable,[very shakey],so you'd need a tripod for it.

Just drink a beer and everything will be ok

We need to keep the site family friendly for Harrison's Mom. We don't want any more complaints from her.

this website definitely needs the filter. The filter keeps the website appropriate for work and family. I would be a little disappointed if profanity was allowed to take over the site.

I just can't see why you would EVER want to allow for curse words to be unfiltered, ever. I can understand it if you want it to be an option for private groups, but that's just a maybe. There is nothing to gain from cursing, to revert back to mundane language, to the idle and useless talk of idiots. There is nothing to gain from idle talk, and one can only gain if they search for a way to provoke emotion from a reader WITHOUT the use of curse words.

These words could be used to provoke emotion and call for emphasis, but it is understood that the more intellectual being can do these very things without the usage of profane words; the construction of an argument that wishes to be legitimate should surpass the dull-mindedness of anyone who uses these words.

I'm happy with the way it is right now with -blam! there instead. Makes trying to decipher some sentences interesting...

Perhaps an option should be created to choose whether you want to see profanity or not. I'd rather just leave it as is for the moment, there's nothing frustratingly bad about it.

No one should ever be afraid of looking stupid, so long as they are making a rational effort to expand their understanding.

There is nothing wrong with adding a little color to help illustrate what you are trying to say. Bring on the -blam!- profanity.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

This is still a family-friendly site, so no.

Love is our weapon. <3

Personally, I think everyones definition of Profanity is going to vary. Most of us who frequent or lurk the site are adults, so generally not too many users are going to be offended.

I think they should at least let us opt-out of the filter.

Six one way, half-a-dozen the other.

I think that the filter slightly encourages posters to think about their choice of words, and the implementation of those words in a sentence. I fail to see how the use of blocked words will add anything positive to any of the discussions that take place here, and in saying that, question the relevance of any motion to allow the disabling of the filter.

Just because one can swear and use 'grown-up' words doesn't mean one should.

And besides, I enjoy thinking of new ways to insult people, rather than falling back upon the tried and true [mundane, done-to-death] insults and cuss words of the common folk.

:D

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I still curse as I want. Hell, I like the -blam!- filter. It's funny.

I could write on and on about how I feel that profanity does not help in discussion, but let me just say this: I see very little benefit to removing the filter.

Sure, perhaps some words could be removed, but overall I think it's alright.

Members here dont get banned.

They just go missing in action.

With profanity comes irresponsible people who will use it to cause chaos and wreak havoc upon our (for the most part) mature community.

Yes this or just allow certain not so dirty words.

  • 07.11.2012 12:56 AM PDT

I definitively support opting-out.

I really am perfectly fine with seeing reckless profanity.

DEEDLE LEEDLE LEEDLE DEEEEE

The answer is simple. Kill the batman.

But in all seriousness, it should be optional.

I think there should be a filter. Although, an option to toggle it off/on would be totally fine with me. Most of the time I would probably have the filter off. So if somebody is just posting a ton of profanity throughout their post, I can actually read it.

Hopefully they'll update the filter in the next bungie.net update with the toggle feature. And by adding/removing certain words.

throwning snowballs at cars is like doing a bell ditch. The end result is basically the same: sprinting away from the large man exiting his car who yells profanities, hiding behind a house, and watching as his car patrols the street, waiting to murder you.

Asking the flood for dating advice is like you going up to a bunch of starving Africans and debating the pros and cons of the bacon roll vs the double cheeseburger.

Some one who stands for nothing shall fall for everything.

Optional filter could be useful.
