Subject: Should profanity be allowed on bnet?

Jack of all trades, master of none.

I think we should have the option.

I don't see why not. Those who don't want to see it won't see it, and those who do, can. Perhaps even going as far as being able to block profanity from individual users.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Why don't we just stop banning trolls and spammers while we're at it? We have rules and restrictions for a REASON here people!

The filter exists for a very specific reason; to fulfill perfunctory, meaningless, ill-reasoned bureaucratic process, thereby exuding the illusion of order over chaos.

Hey I am a big Bungie fan ever since I played Halo 2. I love the series, I love Bungie. I have made a few Bungie logos in my metal shop.

Lets be mature

I think they should at least let us opt-out of the filter.

Well, that's just like, your opinion, man.

I can't believe how many people are saying this is a "family-friendly" site. I don't know why the profanity filter is there. I used to think that it reflected a larger sense of morality and respect on the part of the company as a whole, but I realized that, despite possibly applying to a subset of employees, this was not true at all. I mean, one of the company's slogans is "Don't make us kick your ass." I had a shirt with the carnage logo on the front and that slogan on the back, and it was pretty hard describing the company in a good light while wearing that shirt.

Just making a point. The filter and the restrictions here still help the site be a little less terrible than a lot of the internet in terms of content, so I like it. I think, at most, they should just update the filter list a little. If it went entirely away, I honestly don't think I'd come back to the forums again.

I am serious, but it wasn't intended as a threat or a cry for attention. It would just change the atmosphere around here, and I doubt I'd care for it. I don't come around very often as it is anyway.

Everyone would still post the same things in the same style, with or without the filter. The only change is that their posts would be much more effective at displaying their point and browsing the pages would be much more efficient, I'm tired of having to use context clues to find out, or at least hypothesize, what the filtered word is sometimes.

I don't see why you care so -blam!- much. It replaces profanity with -blam!-s, I find that funny. It's a lighthearted way to censor words that don't have a place in civil discussion.

This is Bungie's website, it reflects their company whether they like it or not. In the past, Ninjas have been quoted by "news" websites as being employees. What that shows is that there are people who check these forums who do not post here regularly, who do not understand our humor, and who would be offended by such profanity (conjecture).

For the most part, yes. Ultimately, I believe it should be optional.

Nah, I like it like this. Download the auto-blam- plugin for greasemonkey, which makes you post -blam- but won't 'cause you a ban/warning. Still fun though !

Bye.

Some internet providers filter websites by the language used on them. If you removed the profanity filter a few people might be greeted with the "A banned word has been found on this site" warning.

I think it's good to play it safe with a filter but I wouldn't mind too much if the filter was removed.

It's not that hard to opt-out; everyone does it in chapters anyway.
