And lol community carnages

What's so "lol" about them?

I participated in my first one ever and I had a blast. Played some classic Halo 3 with some people from the forums (even got lucky enough to be in a lobby with a Bungie Employee today) and new people I hadn't met before. Overall we had a blast and don't regret a single second of it. Plus I'm also signed up for the Halo Reach carnage tonight and I'm excited.

Bungie Day has always been about Community interaction, and that's what Community Carnage is all about.
Half the same people play in the Community Carnages every time one is available. The community is supposed to look forward to Bungie Day, not 16 to however many people play in those events.

To be fair, it was hinted that the Geomantic Runes will be of use in the future (but cannot help us anymore right now). So that journey was not for naught and, if you so chose, you could've taken part in it.

There was quite a bit of community involvement early this morning, it's such a shame that you missed it.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

What, do you want Bungie to invite the entire community to Seattle?

Oh, cry about it. I was just asking a question. My OP was neither whiny nor complaining, albeit I am a bit disappointed. Hop off your high horse.

Why are you disappointed? Bungie doesn't have to give us anything, but they gave us a few new avatars, themes, hints, and a huge announcement IMO. Considering they dont have a game out right now, I dont see how it could have done any better. Plus they would obviously announce a game at a major event, rather than on a day that people outside the community doesn't know about.

You were asking a question in a whiny complaining way. After all of this time you'd think youd know to double check your posts...

I doubt that what these "7 random people" see at the studio will be something for them only. It sounds like it is only just the beginning of some new information for everyone in the community.

Perhaps they will allow them to take pictures in certain areas where they may just happen to place hints and clues in the background! :D

It's too bad that people have to find a reason to read into the OP's comments more than they need to, and then pretend that he is complaining. All I see is a question.

  • 07.07.2012 9:09 PM PDT

Is it so hard to be happy for those who won?

Bungie is in a tight spot, they don't manage Halo anymore so a BDay playlist is out. They can't announce Destiny yet so that's out. What else do you expect? We got new shirts, avatars, and a puzzle hinting at Destiny. The community organized a few events, and I didn't see much interest in those.

It's a community day just as much as it is Bungie's, why couldn't we take it upon ourselves to make it a good day? We don't need Bungie holding our hand through every step. You can be upset all you want, that's fine, it just perplexes me.

Pretty much this. I was just making sure, because I assumed that with us having LITERALLY NOTHING to do normally, and with them having not a single game out, they'd do something today that would involve us all. Something small, hell, like a few Halo games with employees, but all that really happened was some badass avatars and some even more badass backgrounds. That's why I'm disappointed, and everyone can calm their inner fanboy and stop being so defensive.

But yeah, I know, every BDay someone comes along and -blam!-es, and I wasn't really trying to -blam!-, just requesting clarification.

Also rascal if I had a godamn nickel for everytime you told someone to calm down I'd probably have a good... like... erm... $0.65. Point is, post on topic or GTFO dude.

Just seven randoms?
Something about this seems very condescending, almost as if you have a very bad taste in your mouth.
Are you jealous because bungie didn't give you anything?
Are you in a bad mood because the avatars/profile themes didn't give enough away about the next big thing?
Or are you just confused because you were expecting a lot more on a saturday

They don't manage Halo anymore, it's not their place to organize events for a game they don't have the rights to. The best they could do is a series of custom games, which would involve an awful process of invitations and friend requests.. I don't want to think about how awful of an experience that would be.

I don't know what else they could have done today.

I was pointing out that seven random dudes are the only ones Bungie really seemed to do anything with today, as opposed to the whole Community.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Well, since you aren't complaining or whining then yes. Only seven. End of discussion, right? You were only asking for clarification.

I'm going to get back to my life now and get over the fact that Bungie didn't do anything super-spectacular today. For those seven lucky people, well... lucky you.

So all of the new merchandise wasn't enough? Bungie HAS to do something special for the ENTIRE community?

They don't manage Halo anymore. They're not revealing anything on their new IP until next year(and frankly, all of the new avatars hinting at things should be enough to whet some IP appetites). What exactly do you want them to do? They're busy, and I doubt providing everyone with something special is high on their priority list.

God, I'm so tired of the ungrateful people around here. I remember when past Bungie Days were unanimously accepted, since people realized that whatever Bungie did was special and not some sort of mandatory excercise. Now it's like a bunch of screaming children around here.

So, whatever Bungie does is special and anyone saying that it was anticlimactic is ungrateful?

Also, if you "remember when Bungie Day was unanimously accepted", then your memory's out of whack.

IMO, it is, because Bungie has the option to do nothing at all. There's no contract or obligation for them to do anything for the community, they took it upon themselves to do things for us. As stated earlier, since they don't own Halo, and are dark on Destiny until 2013, who in their right mind would expect anything big? I'd seriously like to know why people are always disappointed.

And I don't remember people complaining about Bungie Days back in 08 and 09. It didn't seem to be an issue until recently.

"Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."

Get at me

Yeah bungie doesn't have to do anything for us. They coud be like other devs and not talk to their fans at all. In grateful that we have stuff like constant info and the bungie store and other stuff like that.

Yes Costco. I need a 50lb bag...I mean sack of sugar.

I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion now. OP said what a lot of people were thinking and it's not something you can say without sounding ungrateful. Let's put this in a list.

1. Bungie store additions
2. New Themes
3. New Avatars
4. Cryptic Message confirmed needed for future announcement.
5. Announcement that Paul -blam!- McCartney, one of the greatest musicians living today, is working with Marty on Music.
6. The prize announcement for 1 of 7 winners.

The last one is admittedly a sore point for a lot of people considering how hard it was to get a swag bag, but it's a cool prize and shows that Bungie isn't above awarding some community folks with a tour of their studio. (Maybe above isn't the right term...hopefully you understand what I mean)

Overall, I think it was a good day, a tad bit anticlimatic, but we got some cool stuff, and the promise of a flash of light in the future.
