Could you imagine how insanely awesome it will/would be if, within Destiny, are in-game factions and Bnet would support faction sections throughout the site, each section having specific content for the faction. Take all of the wonderful users on here with such great imaginations and initiative and group them together and then pit them against each other in clan like battles and different types of warfare.
How awesome would that be?This man is a genius!
I agree and seems like something they could be working on. Who knows! But they have been talking about major changes to Bnet right?
Whether you can only be in one faction or could be in multiple, this kind of idea could really make the whole experience deeper.
I love when online games, MMO's especially, get the community very into their game universe. Hence why I love EVE so much and another game Infinity (which is far away from being finished). I love when the game universe gets the players into the action with corporations, financial management, social issues in the game's universe, politics in-game, etc.
I have a feeling there was a lot more to Staten's ""Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you?" than just the idea of the game's basic idea. I think the New Hawtness has a lot more in store for us than we may realize. Bungie loves their community, and they definitely show it. I have a strong feeling that with their heavy amount of Network techs and great web team, they'd be able to pull something off similar to what we're conceptualizing now.
Perhaps it's even exactly what we're exactly conceptualizing now. Thought that would be pretty freakin' unlikely. (But pretty awesome)
Though my point earlier being, if you look at other games with heavily interactive organizations in the game universe like EVE, SWG, Infinity and Skyrim (though in Skyrim, the clan interactions are linear and planned out, not something that can be shifted in any given direction) their communities are heavily engaged in the game. They are always paying attention to what's going on, the more dedicated players have more responsible positions in each organization and everyone has their own job to do.
In some games, there's even an ability to go and spy on another company, do recon missions, take-over's etc. But it's the community that allows all of this to happen. If the players weren't so engaged and imaginative, they'd simply react to a loss to a major battle as "Well, there was lag on my end so I still get to keep my base and I'm not handing it over to you". No, instead, they play as if the universe were real. If a company is taken by a hostile take-over, the company head gives it up. If an army wins a major battle in the game universe, the losing team allows the other team to take control of the region of which was fought for.
All of these things we, as the community, have the potential for. We could build a pretty damn good interactive universe even greater than EVE. Not to mention this community is just full of kick ass people that I could totally see starting player-run corporations, governments etc.
