I'd honestly like there to be a constantly changing world. Like events happen in real time. Like, it just so happens that on December 15th, 2013, Osiris declares war on New Monarchy and so in-game Osiris members are now fighting against New Monarchy members (in some way, shape, or form).

Real-time, in-game political events (that aren't just voting on taxes and stuff) would be really neat, actually.

Again, I point to EVE as an example of this done right. The idea that two factions can declare war on eachother is great. One faction in EVE made the mistake of trying to invade the Goonswarm. The Swarm proceeded to hunt them across the entire game universe. I would support this feature wholeheartedly.

Exactly! So many games use features like this and it works so well, but it all depends on what game Destiny is lol.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I think if we do this, we as players need to have some kind of democracy or "council" for each faction. I think that sounds really cool and make it FPS/3rd person and it will be the Best gae ever.

I like the idea of factions trying to gain control but I think they need to have a good motive and backstory so it is like, what are you fighting for and what do you believe in.

Agreed, a changing battlefield and "map" is something I like. World of Tanks does it well. Clans are allowed to take over different maps and by doing so get compensated for the amount of land they own, politics are held on the forums.

It's a really good idea and would be amazing if this game is what we think it is(MMO FPS Faction thing).
I don't know if, as the user above you said (I'm terribly sorry that I've forgotten your name), we could have actual people affecting land-domination, etc just because of how easy it is to organize WoW-like raids and destroy and area (especially if it's "permanent", in that it doesn't auto regenerate).

And politics happening in a forum...? I can't see that happening. As much as I dislike people who liken everyone on these forums to Reach-tards, I don't think we'd be able to handle any sort of political discourse, as informal as it may be.

Keep in mind, this is still an FPS.

It can't get too Role-Playing-y and it can't turn into a Model United Nations.

It's an FPS.

I think (if Destiny is what we all think it is) each faction (if they really ARE factions) will have their own highs and lows, similar to how most people choose their paths in the elder scrolls and Fallout series games, along with most other RPGs.

But I agree completely. As I said in a earlier post, WorldofTanks clan wars has it's on diplomacy and politics chapter on it's forums. Allowing clans to set up battles and even pacts with each-other. A system like this would be great, maybe even an in-game menu like their is in WoT.

The land-owning is quite game specific, but I do think it's a decent enough idea to be added into a faction based game. Tom Clancy End War tried it, so did M.A.G. It's a tough game mechanic, but when done well it adds something else to the game.

I don't think your giving the forum members enough credit. Besides most of the topics online are just embassies explaining the group and what they do, nothing more really. Most important clan actions are preformed in game.

OMG THAT'D BE EPIC! So would the entire clan vote and the most popular action would be done?

Also, what if there was like an Osiris Spy hidden in the Dead Orbit group and he was telling Dead Orbit the information? That'd be pretty intense...

Like I said to Ken though, it can't get too RPGish. It's an MMOFPS. War and politics is fine, but spying, etc. would be a little much.

This is so epic :D I hope Bungie realizes how much potential they have and takes advantage of it...but I'm sure they will, after all, this is Bungie :)

But then, of course, there would have to be a way to participate in the game without having to deal with all the politics of it (effectively turn off notifications), and just enjoy the world of the MMOFPS at its most basic.

The same as having a Social Playlist and a Ranked Playlist.

Dibs on being a double agent.

I really like the idea of having the forums and in-game experience intertwined.

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I was actually just thinking of that. Much like an RPG game you choose the options that correspond with your own qualities. However in this case you are choosing a faction for both in game and on here. Now that would be pretty cool.

Could you imagine how insanely awesome it will/would be if, within Destiny, are in-game factions and Bnet would support faction sections throughout the site, each section having specific content for the faction. Take all of the wonderful users on here with such great imaginations and initiative and group them together and then pit them against each other in clan like battles and different types of warfare.

How awesome would that be?
This man is a genius!
