Subject: Why Elites look weak and lack the "Powerful honor" look i...

After looking over the renders of the elites on the Halo 4 website, http://halo.xbox.com/halo4#!images/screenshots/ce74650a-bfc6-4 126-a02d-d7db778eff25 It shows a few screenshots of the new elite models. Many people were upset because their arms are skinny and lacking armor, they looked too hunched and lacked honor amoungst other reasons. I believe they did this because it is likely the covenant you will be fighting in Halo 4 are "rouge" groups of covenant alien races, and not an official military force, and made elites the way they look to show how these elite lack honor, strength, and the Zelot feel of the Sanghelii. Any comments or thoughts?

I think they look like scabby dinosaurs now. They look awful.
Currently I don't like the way the Covies are looking in Halo 4 but it's 343's choice.
They are meant to look more brutal and feral as they have lost contact with the rest of the Covenant.
It's also interesting that you mention the lack of honour, as these new Elites are covenant loyalists. So it's strange to see them without any ceremonial armour or weapons...

It makes sense, since the Prophets aren't the figureheads of the Covenant their materialistic and ceremonial nature is replaced with a more barbaric and rugged feel.

Elites are like Samurai. They have honour codes to follow and their armour was nice.

I think these Elites just lack funding. I don't think they are loyalists. Perhaps just pirates or some rouge faction.

GOD DAMN IT STOP WITH THE ROUGE PLEASE. It's ROGUE. R-O-G-U-E. Not that hard, now is it?

On topic - blargh, the elite redesign is stupid. When I saw them for the first time the first thing that came to mind was GoW. Sleeveless, giant feet. Don't look elite at all. Canonically they look that way since they're a splinter covenant faction with degrading tech and not many supplies. Still doesn't explain why they have to look e-fin stupid.

Technically any faction not with the Arbiter is rogue, so you'd be right.

This faction in particular is said to still believe in Forerunner divinity, and are searching for one of their gods on Requiem.

If anyone wants to get together and play some Marathon Durandal on the xbox contact me and we can work something out.

%100 agree with this, they could have made the armor look more rogue without making it look so bulky and stupid. I liked it better when the armor was actually practical, i mean seriously, they have no armor on half their bodies.

And somehow those guys are boarding the Forward Unto Dawn, a ship that last we checked, has ZERO ATMOSPHERE. How the hell are they surviving?

Not to mention how 343 has literally changed the bodies of Grunts (Skin and feet being key examples.)...

Cop lights, flash lights
Spot lights, strobe lights
Street lights
Fast life, drug life
Thug life, rock life
Every night

Stupid Covie + Locust look-a-likes.

Couldn't this be explained by just saying that these Unggoy are, like the Skirmishers in Reach, a sub-species?

I move to replace Jackals with Skirmishers altogether.

They're much more cooler looking and harder to KO. They also have the ability to jump higher than a Spartan or Elite.

Give the Skirmishers Dual Plasma Pistols and you have the superior version of a Drone Queen.

Maybe... But it'd be a stretch if they used that model for all future halo games (or the games of this new trilogy) and go "Oh, all these grunts are a new sub-species, and the original main-line one just disappeared." <_<.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

I just imagine an Elite agree to wear an armored t-shirt. They are warriors and understand the point of armor. Next we'll see Spartan-IVs in sleeveless Mjolnir, thats the same equivalent.

I hear lots of justifications for their new look, but there is a much easier and more likely one; bad design.

Spartan IV's already have plates on their behinds. Which, as I'm told, greatly limits mobility in real life.

Wake me when the jews are gone.

I think that many people are forgeting that there is a reason for this new looks: The Covenant is not an organized military anymore hell! it's not even united, even the storm rifle is human made. Sure it looks retarded and they could have done a better job with it but you have to apreciate all the trouble they have gone throught.

Wait, where do they say the 'storm rifle' is human made?

And even then, if this is supposedly a faction of the Covenant that survived the civil war of the Covenant and all, why would their gear look crappy?

I honestly would be much more excited about Halo 4 if the artistic design was up to the same standard as Bungie. At present we have some amazing new designs that are then countered by some horrendous new designs, its a real mix of good and bad.

  • 07.08.2012 6:10 PM PDT

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

They aren't the Covenant as far as I'm concerned.

IKR! It looks good but as good as Reach released in 2010!

1- Glasslands and Halo 4 website but i might be wrong.

2-We dont know if the civil war is over and even then it doesn't change the fact that without the prophets or and a significant amount of enginiers they would't be able to do squat. Now this doesn't mean that the new loooks are good but at least they are cannolicaly right.

  • 07.08.2012 6:35 PM PDT

Um, Glasslands had ONI giving default plasma rifles out. Not a brand new rifle.

And even then, why would their armor suddenly go from clean to looking like it was pulled out of a dumpster?

Why would they loose entire armor pieces, or sealed suits? I'm talking like halo 2 era group. One of them who didn't get caught in the schism.

i really don't know and expect it to be anwered in The Thursday War but for know this is enough of an explanation for me, i mean you didn't see fully equiped german stormtropers supported by panzers and heavy artillery by the end of the war, neither did the bolcheviks have a fully equiped and trained army in the russian revolution.

But you are saying a group of Covenant who still had a sizable fleet just suddenly had no proper body armor? Yet they still have phantoms, banshees, wraiths, ghosts, etc?

Graphically speaking, they look amazing. They should definetely be bulkier though. They hardly itimidating.
