Who pays to use an online forum?
I have a feeling the guy who replied right after you would gladly buy a premium membership.

You think he would?

I'm done here.

This thread has made me feel like I put my brain inside a blender so I think I'm done with the internet for today.

Yup.

I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

Lolnope.

Although I was thinking about something kind of similar the other day.

Members who make a contribution to Bungie get a special profile option. Maybe the option to have a special title bar color, special avatar, or maybe some sort of little symbol on the title bar.

I guess it could be an extended feature of bungie pro then.

Nope, he pretty much just meant that the added services will be reapplied to newer games they'll be making. He never said anything about making core services (e.g. the forums) premium.

My talents include always knowing the wrong thing to say.

Twitter!

It'a bad idea because we don't need anything like that. Maybe if the place was 10x more populated or something, but this isn't a huge message board, these are pretty small forums.

Intolerance is the highest level of stupidity and inbred thinking.

I'd like to claim this as the worst idea ever, but the Septagon has seen worse...

Now, why do I think this? Well, let's start simple. If you have money, does that instantly make you a person of quality? A person of genuine character? I'm going to say no, just going off of the idea that there are so many people going to jail for fraud, corruption, money laundering, etc.

So then why should we use something like money to determine who's better? I would never pay for this, because (a) I have more important things to spend money on, and (b) I don't have that much money. So are you telling me that I would become someone who ruins these forums, just because I didn't pay a simple one time fee of $X.xx?

We should know better, because we are better.

Bad idea. This would result in a massive drop of activity. Almost no one would want to pay for a forum especially when they could get banned and lose their investment. This is a bad idea and I hope it never get implemented in any forum.

I can see the point of paying for extra services related to their games, especially when it requires extra hardware and maintenance like film rendering does. But the forums are an avenue for connecting with fans, that should be free.

Also, your edit makes this idea even worse.

  • 07.08.2012 10:40 AM PDT

there are so many other forums to use, your idea wouldn't work

Of course he would, he cares a lot about the community and is always thinking of new ways to improve it. I am actually kind of surprised that he hasn't voiced support for this idea, he partially inspired me to think of this idea.
Wasn't sure if serious. So I checked post history.

This.
Hey Flood help me with My Little Pony cosplay.
OP is a 'stool.'
This is a crappy topic.
I scratched myself in class.
Pay me to moderate the forums.

All recent posts by the thread maker.
So yeah. Deliberately terrible idea is deliberate.

We should know better, because we are better.

That kills discussion even more. People would complain their topic only got 2 posts and demand money back.

Ok, how about this: topic credits you can purchase. You can purchase however many topic credits you want, and with each topic you post after your alloted 1 or 2 topics per day, you use up one of these topic credits. Does this sound like a better idea? It gets rid of the elitism problem.

No, because it's still 'pay to do things you can do normally as it is.'
