the FWC is supposed to be a new faction in bungies new project.

well to me the name does not make sense. just think about it for a second Future War Cult. if it was a cult in present(being the time of bungies next game) time would they not be just called "War Cult"? would could this mean? am i making sense? could this mean time travel? just a thought.

Given that we literally know nothing about these "factions" (we don't even know if they're factions) it's hard to base anything from that.

If memory serves, the reason we believe it is called Future War Cult is that a Bungie employee who was wearing that T-shirt at some Lan Party or something was asked what it stood for and he replied "Future War Cult".

Whether that story is completely true, or whether they have changed what it stands for between now and then, has yet to be seen. It's not nearly as concrete as the rest of the faction names, which Bungie registered as Domain Names a while back.

Actually the name, Future War Cult, doesn't make sense to me. Or "Cult" is more of a "religion" type of word. Hopefully, soon we will understand it more clearly.

But yea from what you are talking about it, time travel would make sense.

Just made a thread that kinda goes along with that thought.

FWC could mean anything, but I do believe it will be something you can be a part of. For now I think this.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

Key

It's a cult preparing for a war in the future. As in one that has yet to happen in their universe and time.

This is close to making sense for me but I assume that shortly after we start the same the Future War will no longer be in the future, it will be current. In other words, it still confuses me.

Maybe it's called the Future War because it's the first sort of interplanetary war. The thing people envisioned as a war of the future.

Sort of a self-aware naming process.

i find that more unlikely than my idea that they would name them selves after a war that has not happened.

Bye.

I thought it would have been something like "Free World Colony". But the Future War Cult trademark does appear to have a lot of legitimacy to it. Unless Bungie was expecting us to look for new trademarks and those are just decoy names so that nothing is spilled just yet.

It may also mean future war council... Which would lend itself to a completely different meaning.

I don't know what it means at all. However, I like the logo so I'm going to represent whatever the FWC is for now. With my avatar and t-shirt...that I still have to order...

"searched for other websites registered on 9/20/2010 and discovered whois info for FutureWarCult.com.

The name was also registered as .net and .org versions on the same day,"

Hey I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but on the description page for the "FWC" T-Shirt the description reads:
Have you seen us wearing shirts like these? Drape yourself in an enigma from our future release.

Note the word future in the description. In other descriptions, like the ones for New Monarchy and Dead Orbit, clues are given to the name of the of the faction.

Dead Orbit:
You can be a dead ringer for a Bungie employee. Decorate your chest with this mysterious crest and watch the questions fly.

New Monarchy:
For Bungie Day, we are giving you the shirts off our backs. Adorn yourself with a mysterious icon fit for a king .

Notice the words dead (for Dead Orbit) and king (for New Monarchy). These descriptions lead me to believe the word "future" definitely stands for the "F" in FWC.
