Okay everyone, hear me out on this. I have a theory that doesn't rely on much evidence, but it's a start. I realize I could be completely wrong about everything I am about to say.

Destiny will be set in another universe. For the sake of ignorance, we'll call it the Destiny Universe. On an earth-like planet of Bungie's choosing, there will be many races of people who possess certain powers. (I came to this conclusion because the game is called Destiny, which means fate. The Nords and other tribes in the medieval ages used runes, spells, and alchemy to accomplish certain things, but also regarded fate as a very important aspect of life. This is also why Bungie used the Geomantic letters in their update.) The time period will be set in the future, where the different factions, Seven Seraphs, New Monarchy, Osiris, Dead Orbit, and FWC will be set against each other with the aim of accomplishing a certain goal, each having a certain magical advantage over at least one other race.

Well that's my theory. What do you guys think? Care to add on or correct something?

Key

Geomancy has nothing to do with Nordic Peoples.

And Sci-Fi Fantasy doesn't mean there's magic involved, it just means that they can have loose science.

Star Trek is Science Fiction, Star Wars is Sci-Fi Fantasy.

Considering it is futuristic I wouldn't go with a magical advantage

Otherwise this sounds good

Geomancy was adopted into Europe and was considered one of the highest arts of divination and magic alongside astrology. In fact, there is strong evidence that prominent scholars, bishops, and popes from all over Europe were versed in either of these arts, or both. So prominent was the art that kings, nobles, and other people of means would spend large sums of money to have geomantic charts cast for them in order to divine anything from the course a battle would take to the outcome of an upcoming marriage. Would you have guessed Marathon was about a Greek soldier delivering messages to cities if you didn't know anything about the game today? Or is it about a brash young Olympian that goes through a very boring set of quicktime events every day to train for the big gold?

You absolutely cannot divine anything about a video game from a very vague title like "Destiny".

That said, I did write up a very long essay just before Peter Molyneux's "Black and White" came out detailing the struggle of race equality in North America, and came up with a pretty cool concept for a video game too. It involved a lot of basketball.

I was ten at the time, so I was quite proud of myself.

Of course I'm being rash, but that's all the information I have at the moment, so I'm simply coming up with a theory. If you don't agree with it, fine. That doesn't mean I shouldn't keep coming up with them.

"There's daggers in men's smiles." - Donalbain, Macbeth, Act II, scene iii

Firefly MMORPG is my theory.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I figured that it will be interplanetary, but also include Earth and the Moon.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You wonder if the game is set in the past where cults or groups are trying to get the ability to travel to the stars.

*A civil war has broken out in the galaxy among the dived colonies.....

...Who will you side with?
...Forge your Destiny.

*Any resemblance to Destiny is purely coincidental.
